i remember doing this in august but i had forgot .
The 3 sides of a triangle have lengths of (4x+3) cm, (2x+8) cm, and (3x-10) cm. What is the length of the shortest side if the perimeter of the triangle is 136 cm?
can anybody nicely explain to me how to solve this problem.

The perimeter of your triangle equals the lengths of the three sides added together. This gives you:
(4x+3) + (2x+8) + (3x-10) = 136
Combining like terms...
9x + 1 = 136
9x = 135
x = 135/9 = 15
So since x=15, your side lengths are:
4*15 + 3 = 63 cm
2*15 + 8 = 38 cm
3*15 - 10 = 35 cm
Your shortest side is 35cm.

Add the three sides to get 136 cm.
Then solve for x.
Figure out which is the shortest side.
4x+3 + 2x+8 + 3x -10=136
9x = 136 - 1
9x = 135
x = 15
Sides must be
4x+3=60+3=63cm
2x+8=30+8=38 cm
3x-10=45-10=35 cm = shortest side

so:

solve for x
then just plug in x and see which one is smallest
