You guys got this backwards. During mitosis it stays the same, during meiosis it becomes haploid

Yes, the diploid number stays the same in meiosis.
The diploid number just means there are two of every kind of chromosome.
Since mitosis aims to make two daughter cells just like the parent cell, every stage is diploid.

i think it does. cuz haploid cells go thru miosis and becomes a diploid cell and goes into mitosis, which is the reall plant... hope thts rite... :\
