Multinationals have more money and economic power than many countries. When the have large interest in a country it is feared, with some justification, that they will have excess influence so their government will make and enforce laws for the benefit of the companies and not the people.
The disruption that new competitors introduce to local markets, harm some people and benefit others so cause some unhappiness. I doubt that companies like Mac Donald's and Coke whose investments are widely dispersed are seen as a real threat.

Any where from taking away small mom and pop stores that are so popular in other countries, to cultural wipe outs. In fact, just the other week I saw a guest on the daily show talk about how coca cola can't compete in India, where tea is far too popular. So basically, coca cola has to replace India's second largest beverage industry, water (yeah, my eyes where blinking too) and take away a huge factor of the tea industry. So soon, Indians will have to abondoned thier tea farming communties for a few coca cola plants. Not to mention, change their life style.
