Ricky Ponting of Australia without any doubt. He has played with responsibility and maturity displayed by no other batsman. He is truly a skilful batsman, knows how to play the moving ball, the rising bouncer and plays spinners with relative ease.

Mathew Hayden of Australia has been the most impressive player in the current world cup, not only because he has scored most runs in this tournament, but also because of his consistency till now.

There are a few real stand-outs in the batting department.
1) Matthew Hayden - AUS (Runs and big hitting)
2) Graeme Smith - SAF (Runs and captaincy)
3) Ricky Ponting - AUS (Runs, captaincy and consistancy)
Admittedly captaincy wasn't a category mentioned, but I've always thought it's much tougher to score big runs consistantly when you're a captain, extra pressure and all.

I would have to say Ricky Ponting, Matthew Hayden and Micheal Clark. They always seem to come out with the good hits and always have a good run total at the end of the game.

If Andrew Symonds was given the opportunity to face more overs you would really see who was the best one day batsman in the world.

I think it would be Tendlukar, Vaughn, Flintoff, and Gayle. Just kidding they are not at all impressive.
I really think it would be Michael Clarke, Matty Hayden, or Jacques Kallis and Hershie Gibbs because they are consistently playing really good knocks.

I think theres a few people that stand out, then in a match or two they didn't do as good as they would've wanted to.
However we must remember that every batsmen has a specific job to do, and is in for that reason.
Guys who stick out:
Gibbs
De Villiers
Ponting
Gilchrist
Kallis
Langevedlt
Malinga
