The resources that would be available will vary from school to school.

First, you will need to figure out where you're going to go to school. Then, you'll need to work out your living arrangements.

If there are any community colleges in your area, that would be a great place to start. For one, community colleges are typically cheaper, saving you a lot of money. They also cater to commuter students, so on-campus living is not even an issue. And most four-year schools will let you transfer credit in so that you can finish your degree at another institution.

Doing this for two years would mean that you wouldn't have to worry about a campus living arrangement until your baby was 2, which means that more child care arrangements might be available.

A lot of students don't live on campus -- they stay in nearby apartments, live with relatives who are located within a convenient distance to the campus, etc. As a new mom, you won't be prevented from going to college, but your living arrangements will just be a bit more restricted. One other thing: on-campus living is usually NOT the cheapest way to go, so, unless money is not an issue, you'd probably be better off living off-campus.

It depends on the college you attend. Majority colleges will not allow a student to bring their baby on campus to live due to liability issues. However you may want to research colleges that will allow this and you will search for parent housing. St. Paul College located in Virginia allows student to bring their child to school with them and from my understanding it is a good program. A former co-worker did this and she stated that it worked for her because she was in the dorm with other parents and didn't have to worry about freshman dorm life (smoking, noise etc.) You will have to do more research. Good Luck

Yes, you can raise a baby on a college campus. HOWEVER, you need to speak to the housing director about placement in a family dorm. Usually family dorms are for grad students (since they tend to be more likely to have spouses and kids), but since you have a baby on the way, you should qualify, too.

A regular frosh dorm is NO environment for a baby. Usually there's a lot of noise, a lot of alcohol, and a fair amount of tobacco and drug use.

While you're at it, inquire about day care services on campus. If not, check out your school's MySpace groups, Facebook groups, and classified ads and see if there are any babysitting cooperatives or parent support groups so you can find folks to babysit while you're in class or just need a quiet study hour.

No, you can't. If you want to go to college and be a mother, pick a school that is in driving distance of your home and commute. You'll save money that way too.

Many universities will let you move into married or family student housing. That fills up quick, so contact them now.
