I've been taking the pill for 10 years for medical reasons. It used to be that being on the pill for a long time could affect fertility but as far as I know that is no longer the case because of newer formulations and also ways to help induce the period if it does stop for a long time after having been on the pill for a time.

I would definitely double check with your dr to see what they say about this.

Honey, our family came from a "Firtle Turtle!!" That's a joke, by the way but my only brother of 6 children, got married way back in 1980, and before he married my "prescious sister-in-law" she got pregnant with his baby and got an abortion, cuz I dont know why, but for some reason she did it...... and for years after she was on birth control until my brother was finally ready to have children they couldn't .....get pregnant... And to this day she regret's the fact that she aborted that baby of his..... And now we have no son's from our brother to pass down our familly name... Its so sad, but true... I say "yes" get off of the pill, my gosh, even in the 70s, when I was on the safest one there was because my roommate was a medical assistant, knew which one was the safest I still didn't like them!!! And I am so proud of my 4 children I do have and dont regret one child ever being born, not ever!!! They My Children are my Greatest Success in this life!!! I have never been much of an accomplishment at anything, but I have been known as a #1 Mom from time to time!!! And so to me, they are my "Greatest Accomplishment!!!" And I am Damn Proud of all the hard work I put into each one of them, and they will be very "Successful People one day, because of all that I put into them!!!" And that's alone is my personal achievment in this life!!" "Yes get off of those toxic pills!!" They are only going to destroy what womanhood you have left!!!" Smile!!!

I have been on it for 12 years. Each time I have my yearly check up I ask the doctor if I should consider going off the pill? Any long term effects? etc. Each time he says there are no links to long term effects and I can stay on the pill as long as I choose. Keep checking in with your doctor - as with all medicines, there is new research coming out all the time that may change their thinking and understanding.

I was on the pill for 14 years. As soon as I'm done having kids, I'm going right back on it! You should talk to your doctor about your specific concerns, since everyone is different. But in general there is no time limit for how long you can be on the pill.

I think it's just a myth. My sister was on the pill for 9 years and her doctor told her as long as she had normal periods before she got on the pill then when she got off everything would be fine. She got pregnant within 6 months once she got off.
