With regards to 'global climate change' (aka Global Warming) is there any real scientific debate or has it become a force operating beyond and without the realm of logic? Have we too quickly cast ourselves as villains while ignoring greater forces then ourselves?
What do you believe? Do you believe that this debate is fair and balanced or lopsided and reaching absurd proportions? Should we ask the political leadership to stop meddling in the realms of science which they know little if anything about? What say you?

however is it alright that the people are lied to as to the reason change is needed? Also, should such change be forced upon the people? Whatever happened to our freedoms?

Yes the world is warming, however the reason for it has been placed on man-kinds actions rather than the natural environment. This I find fault with. The debate isn't over whether the world is warming; its who/what is to blame.

The debate in the scientific community is slowly being resolved in favor of human activity responsibility for a substantial part of the observed warming. Fox news is fair and balanced, scientists are analytic and respond to evidence and reason, which overtime leads to a consensus opinion not endless argument. Most of what is taught is science courses including Newton's laws and the theory of relativity, is consensus opinion of the best explanation for events in the real world. Scientist do not like explanations for physical phenomena that depend on mysterious "forces greater than ourselves". Unless someone comes up with an alternate mechanism that can explain the magnitude and timing of the warming, they will increasing believe that the greenhouse gas explanation to be the most probable cause, if the earth continues to warm. This does not mean that the research efforts will end into other possible causes. To quantify the interaction between the atmosphere and the temperature, better measurements are needed of all the relevant factors, so if there is an alternate cause it will be found. Since it is a question that effects public policy, there is no way to keep politicians from meddling.

If you want an answer to this question, review the literature and not talk radio or the internet. There is little to be learned from the opinions of most on Y/A, talk radio, tv, etc. Go educate yourself by reading the scientific literature.

If you don't want to have to wade through too much jargon, start by reading Scientific American, Science, or Nature.

The short answer to your question is that the "debate" is largely confined to modeling, not to evidence over warming. There is considerable debate over "what happens next and when". There is no debatein the scientific community over whether global warming is a real phenomenon.

I believe that it doesn't matter what the cause is we need to do whatever we can to protect and/or improve the environment. Besides getting away from oil and becoming energy self sufficient would have many other benefits. Not the least of which is security.
It's my understanding, and I don't claim to be an expert, that the scientific community is almost unanimous in the belief that global warming is happening. I even saw Bush say that it's happening. I saw his energy secretary say that he has 4 of the 6 most powerful computers in the world and they all say it's happening. I have to believe that it's happening.

I don't need proof someone will and already making money out of this,I am a gardener, now to some that don't explain much but to the gardeners it says a lot.Climate change is a fact of nature.A fact of the world,it has been will and will be again changing fact of life.If the worse happens I want to know what we can do not what government thinks we ought to do because they will surely get it wrong and we will understand this when its far too late, you know if they were all that concerned where are the flood gates being built?where is surplus grain being grown?or stored?Where is water for the dought? Have you heard yet NO ! why?its because they are not worried but we are all concerned, because someone told us something that wasn't war related and got your attention.I think everyone should conserve any way they can but wake up people we can not do it for the intire world. But we can start thinking now what to do when it comes upon us and make ajustments.

Considering you can download Gore's movie for FREE from his website, I'm thinking that making money isn't on the top of his 'to do' list. I suggest you watch it, then look into the incidents that he refers to in it, then form an opinion.

One way or another, something needs to be done. We've known it for years and if the odd weather patterns aren't enough for you, how about the global-wide raising water levels?

There is another concept that was mentioned in Gore's movie that I DID look into myself. There is actually a way that you can measure how warm it was in the past by looking at a sampling of an ice core from the pole. When looking at these samples, scientists have discovered that the last few years have been the warmest EVER.

Also, never before have we found polar bears who have drowned from exhaustion because they have less ice to live on. Now they have. This isn't a separate incident, it happens every day now.

Either you share my opinion, or you do not. That is up to you. Just watch the film and credit or dis-credit the info before you form an opinion. :)

Blessings.

Global wamring is a ploy by some who want to profit from this scare tactic. The world's temps have increased by a whole 1 degree in 100 years and they want to tell you the sky is falling. Look at history, in the 30's there was extreme drought, hurricanes all throught the century, it is called trends. CO2 gas really has nothing to with global warming, it is less than .3 percent exhausted into the atmosphere, and the owest gas detected. What causes warming is moisture, no CO2 which doesn't trap gas.
It is quite simple, some want to scare everyone into believeing the sky is falling in order to PROFIT from it, I.E. all the money made by Gores' movie and books.
Yes pollution is bad but we aren't going to burn up from it in 20 years like some want you to believe.

The theory of man-made global warming is false, it is based on falsified or incomplete data. Lets take a look at what the global warming crowd claims, they say that the human output of CO2 is causing the greenhouse effect which is warming the planet. To see how outrageous this claim is try to guess how much of our atmosphere is made up of CO2, the correct answer is 0.03% of our atmosphere, almost nothing. How can such a small part of our atmosphere have such an effect on our entire planet, correct answer it can’t. Greenhouse gases exist naturally and have always been in our atmosphere. Greenhouse gases such as CH4 (methane), N2O (Nitrous Oxide), and water vapor are all put out into the atmosphere naturally in far greater concentrations than humans could ever match. Let’s take a look at water vapor, water vapor makes up between 1-4% of the atmosphere far more than CO2. Water vapor is given off into the atmosphere due to evaporation, so evaporation causes much more global warming than humans ever could. Other natural sources such as volcanic eruptions and the decomposition of plant and animal matter also put far more greenhouse gases than humans ever could.
So what is causing global warming? Well first of all the earth may not even be warming. http://wwwghcc.msfc.nasa.gov/temperature/ This is a collection of global temperatures collected by NASA that shows a general cooling trend especially around the polar ice caps. So assuming the earth is warming what could be causing it, the sun. Look at this graph also put out by NASA: http://science.nasa.gov/headlines/y2003/17jan_solcon.htm, it shows that the intensity of the sun is directly correlated to global temperatures and recent studies have shown that the sun is now warming than ever before, coincidence? I think not. Also consider that the other planets in our solar system, Mars in particular, are also warming: http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2007/02/070228-mars-warming.html
You have to keep in mind that the earth goes through natural cycles of warming and cooling, take for example the ice age and later warming of the earth enough to melt the ice.
Advocates of global warming will try and post evidence but the fact is most evidence for global warming comes in the form of general statements like “think of your children/grandchildren” that try to guilt you into agreeing with them. These ads are devoid of scientific proof and seek to toy with your conscience. Every once in a while you will see a graph submitted as evidence mostly from http://www.ipcc.ch/. Take a look for yourself, I search in vain for proof of global warming on this site, sure there are dozens of graphs showing the same data: CO2 rising along with global temperatures but where are the graphs for other greenhouse gases that make up a greater percentage of our atmosphere and are put out naturally, or graphs showing the percentage of greenhouse gases put out by humans verses the gases put out by natural sources. These graphs are not included because they disprove the theory of man made global warming. The IPCC has had a questionable past, it has published a deliberately falsified graph, the so called hockey stick graph, which left out a period of warming during the 1400’s. This warming period in the 1400’s was more dramatic than what we are seeing today, and it took place long before humans industrialized. This falsification was proven and a reprint of the graph appeared in the journal Nature. You may have seen claims that there is a scientific consensus on global warming like this one: http://www.sciencemag.org/cgi/content/full/306/5702/1686, this is an absolute lie, do you need proof? Here http://www.oism.org/pproject/s33p36.htm the signatures of over 17,000 scientists who disagree with the theory of man made global warming (check out the report on this site it does an excellent job of disproving global warming). You may have also seen reports about ice cores supposedly proving global warming, this is not true. Here is the truth about ice cores http://www.john-daly.com/zjiceco2.htm.
You may have the question why anyone would support this obviously false theory, the answer is money. Average people with no scientific background are being converted to the global warming crowd by the dozens due to the repression of evidence against global warming. This mass of people is the reason why notable people are jumping on the global warming bandwagon. Politicians are supporting global warming for votes, scientists are joining for media time and grants, and CEO’s are pledging their allegiance to gain customers who want to shop where the environment is being supported.
You may also wonder why I care, you may think we can only help the environment if we agree with global warming what’s wrong with that? I want to distinguish between global warming and helping the environment. I have no problem with environmentalist causes, in fact I support them, but global warming is taking this idea to the extreme. If you were to follow the guidelines set forth by people like Al Gore your lifestyle would be, these people want to tell you what light bulbs to use. The main reason however is money, why waste millions on studying global warming when we could be rebuilding third world countries and helping the poor. Global warming is a fear tactic used to get your money and your vote by unscrupulous members of society. Hopefully this will just fade away like the global cooling scare which was brought upon us in the 1970’s by the same sort of people using the same tactics. A last link http://www.worldclimatereport.com/ possibly the best resource for answering many of the questions raised by global warming. I urge anyone who believes in man-made global warming to look into some of the resources I have presented. Do not sacrifice your money, time, vote, and conscience to the greedy members of society who are blinding you to the truth for their own greed.
