It depends where your looking. mainstream rock isn't that great. I just bought Bullet for My Valentine. Best album I have bought in 2 years. If you like hard rock that is. So there are some good groups out there

Their is a lot more competition for rock songs, by newer genres and styles, like hip hop, grunge, punk, alternative rock, and more, but the old classic rock songs still seem to be the best, in my opinion
For what it's worth, the current top rock songs musicians want to learn to play are:
- Boston by Augustana
- How to Save a Life by The Fray
- Fidelity by Regina Spektor
- Mad World by Gary Jules
- 100 Years by Five For Fighting
- My Immortal by Evanescence
You can listen to free midi previews, plus download the sheet music with lyrics for all of the above rock songs at http://download-sheet-music-online.com/

Not good. Current mainstream rock music sucks. If it wasn't for oldies (Radiohead, Pink Floyd, The Beatles, Guns N Roses) some newer European bands (Muse, Snow Patrol, Kent, Coldplay, Franz Ferdinand...) and a couple Latin American groups (Maná, La Secta, Enanitos Verdes...) I wouldn't even listen to rock anymore. I also like Taking Back Sunday, but I'm not crazy about them.

Hi, excellent question topic, my friend. My response is quite simple.

As far I'm concerned, TOOL is the only band that really matters, AND I'm seeing them in Orlando on 5/31, so that's where my head's at!

Maynard and the boys continue to take their music to a level that NO OTHER band can match. They transcend any other artists out there, and that's why it takes them so long to produce new projects: they're not just churning out the same recycled crap like so many other bands unfortunately do.

The cream is not rising to the top. Just the ones with the videos that teens like best. This is good for local bands because there is some damn good local stuff now. The internet is bringing thousands of bands in reach of you that you never would have heard of otherwise. Look and listen hard.

It's alright.
Some bands are coming back like the Police
but the emo section is killing.
There are other awesome upcoming bands like Wolfmother.
And the Red Hot Chili Peppers are hitting hard.
It's not all bad.

Horrible, I'm just glad I still have my CD's from the early 90's so that I can listen to some good stuff that wasn't made for wanna be emo kids or posers. Keep it metal.

Nothing new, it's so boring, same old cookie-cutter songs with teen-angst lyrics.
Wolfmother is a bright ray of sunshine though xD
I think we need to all turn back. Cheap Trick anyone?
