Barrett Jackson recently auctioned a 1966 Shelby Cobra for a cool $5,000,000. I don't know if that is the most expensive car on earth, but it would have to be close.

If you consider development and maintenance. Formula 1 cars are the most expensive by far. They cost millions of dollars. The most expensive new car you can buy today is the Bugatti Veyron costing 1.1 million.

mine.. sucks gas like a camel after a month long hike in the desert, eats up tires like I've been commuting across a lava bed, drips oil worse then the Exon Valdez and has the worlds largest collection of unpaid parking tickets in the glove compartment.

It is called the bugatti veyron , it the the most expensive passenger car, bought new.
"Car" is a bit loose, as there are "race" cars that cost way more (like the lemans 24Hr cars, or indy cars).

im not sure but the carrera GT is pretty dang expensive at a smackin 350,000 dollars
