Because they can't afford the gas to drive themselves to the welfare office anymore. They either walk, or take a bus.

Here it is a year later and the Democrats won control of the Congress and low and behold the price of gas is again rising. It is heading toward $3.00 a gallon and we have heard nary a peep from the Democrats. They were going to put an end to this because they are the party of the people and higher gas prices are not right. The Democrats had their minions believing that low gas prices were a god given right and that the Democrats were the only ones who could carry out that Heavenly mandate.
Democrats refuse to allow new drilling on our property and will not allow new refineries, the nearly 50 boutique blends of gasoline required around the nation, and increased demand for oil in China and it is easy to see why the price is going up and it is easy to see that no one person or party can change that.
For all their bluster last year when they wanted to win control, the Democrats have been remarkably silent about the cost of gasoline this year. They know that they can not change the market just as they knew it last year. They are just hoping people are too ignorant to remember they promised to make it better. This turn out being just another promise they will not keep.

Environmental lobbyists work for legislation that places more regulations and taxes on oil and gasoline, so I don't know why Democrats take so much issue with the price of gas. The Democrats are always complaining that too many people drive and pollute the environment, but that's exactly why Congress implements all that taxation, isn't it? To curb the use of gasoline, right? (Other than raise revenue for the government, of course.)
Also, I thought we were going into Iraq so we could steal all the oil and blah blah blah Bush is evil blah blah. Where's all this oil I've been hearing about? I've been paying $3.15/gallon at the pump and I'd kind of like to know when I can expect the thievery to begin already.

My opinion is that Liberals have made a mantra out of the War in Iraq being about oil. They have convinced themselves that since we are at war in Iraq, oil prices should have dropped.
You cannot tell them differently, btw.
Furthermore, they have added a new chorus to this song, and it goes something like this: The President and the oil companies are profiting from the War and not passing the savings on to Americans.
The real deal? We here in the US are spoiled-rotten when it comes to gasoline prices. And they are eventually going to catch up with the rest of the world.
As far as your argument, I agree that we need to drill here. I cannot agree that our prices will be lower, when we will be paying US wages and prices on removing the oil and getting it to the end-user.

That has got to be one of the more uninformed statements I've read today. No oil company has built a new refinery in over thirty years in this country. Keep the demand high and the supply low insuring big profits. What's so hard to understand. What I don't understand is why an oil company making seventy five billion in profit over the last two years needs corporate welfare while they are paying their CEO almost a half billion dollar departure package and we are once again closing in on three dollars a gallon gasoline. That's why I complain.

Gas prices go up on almost a daily basis - how can this
be necessary when companies like Exxon made
about a $6 billion profit last year?
Finding more places to strip the planet of oil isn't the
solution, finding an alternate fuel source, is.

Well you have to admit that gas prices are pretty high and from what I hear theyre going to get higher. It's a crummy situation and I think that someone should do whatever it takes on the quiet to get us some gas.

Liberals DON'T complain about gas prices. They drive gas-sipping cars and ride their bikes.
But you're still dead wrong - environmentalists aren't causing high gas prices. The U.S. simply doesn't have much oil to drill. We have less than 3% of the world's supply. We consume 26% of the world's production every year though. We have no hope of drilling out way out of that. Stop spreading lies.

Americans consume 25 percent of the world's produced oil, but our nation holds less than 3 percent of the world's proven oil reserves.
The amount of economically recoverable oil in the Arctic Refuge, according to U.S. Geological Survey estimates, would increase world reserves by just 0.3 percent.

For some reason they believe they President can dictate oil prices.
Due to their lack of intellect, this is the simpleton form their animosity takes.
