I used to go on the computer about 5 years ago, and would go to Yahoo chat. Is that still a popular place, or is there anything new or better?

Yahoo chat is the only chat site I recommend. I used to use a program called mirc but it's a bit dead looking.

To put it in a word Yes. Yahoo now has Yahoo IM, and various types of "game rooms" that you can chat in while playing some really fun games and talk to some pretty interesting people.

I think the best place to chat online today is SecondLife. Its a virtual world you can explore... and everyone you bump into is another human being.
The first thing people do on SecondLife is create their character. You can decide everything about yourself... Makes the avatars on Yahoo! seem downright childish. Then -- you can dress yourself up and explore.
