He would have gone to 'rehab' at a Pacific Coast luxury resort in California for a week.

No, I don't think it would have mattered if Imus had degraded gay's. He may have been asked to be the marshall for the easter or xmas parade (definitely not the gay pride parade), since it's still a-ok to be homophobic.

And, if Imus he had "just" degraded women, and had not degraded black women, I don't think anyone would care either, since it's totally acceptable to call women just about anything you want on the air. At least he didn't call these young women feminazi's, which I think is one of the most offensive slur words there is. Can you imagine calling a conservative a conservanazi, to "denigrate" him and his "evil" agenda?

I'd thought about this too. Apparently Imus makes homophobic comments repeatedly. Rutgers was my team in the women's NCAA tourney. But women's NCAA ball has become all black only in the past few years -- it is already pretty much an accepted fact in the men's basketball programs that the teams are primarily black. So even thought some people are saying this is an anti-woman statement, I think it is anti-black. I don't believe in censorship of speech -- but I know how much it hurts to hear those things, having been gay and trans all my life. I saw the pain on the Rutger's players faces in their interview today. I think Imus was speaking to his audience -- probably most intelligent people have never listened to him. There will always be bigotry and I think the best defense is to bring attention to it and decry it -- but you won't stop it. And, to directly answer you question, no I don't think he'd have been suspended if his comments had been about gays. It has been an interesting year in women's basketball, and how it handles lesbian players -- with the LSU coach Pokey Chapman resigning right before the tournament due to alleged improper relationships with players, and Rene Portland resigning at Penn State over her abusive behavior toward gay players. Last word -- I use Black instead of African-American -- because I always believe that term implies that Black Americans are lesser people -- it implies that the term American implies European-American, and means something better than African-American.

Coulter barely got a scolding. The scales of social injustice have been tipped in favor of people with big mouths who cry foul often.

Anyways .. No, it would only be a little blip. Joe Solmonese would run a campaign against Imus, and in 2 weeks would be history.

not if he had used the word 'gay' however incorrect that word is for describiing a homosexual person.
if he had said look at those Q_ _ rs perhaps he would.
Since 'nappy' is a factual( mostly ******* used) term with relation only to their hair-thus there is nothing racial in saying look at those nappy headed-people or kinky headed people no more so than those blonde straight haired people.
and someone in,and around radio, and tv entertainment would have been inunbdated by the hip hop, rap, movement thus the slang word developed by hip hop ******* artist would not have become common langauge to so many, any more than who ever started using the word gay,and it was allowed.

I don't think Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson would be in his face but Barney Frank might be. I think that with time and disparaging gays will become something that is frowned upon in the US.

I can't stand him...but doesn't he already make homophobic comments all the time anyway? and does anyone make this big of a stink about that? not hardly.....not to say that his racist comments weren't wrong either...they were. but why should he not get as much grief or a suspension over other bigoted comments he makes?

I think so. He should be fired for making any slurs towards anyone.

No. But he probably would have gotten a dishonorable mention on "The View".

It would have been dismissed as "a colorful if inappropriate phrase". Please.... it's totally ok with our culture to make homophobic remarks.
