Actually, the domino effect was a very real and potential threat to Australia. Australia would be virtually isolated and vulnerable both economically and defensively had Southeast Asia and regional countries fell to communism. F.Y.I. North Vietnam had a much larger military than Australia did. Fortunate for Australia, North Vietnam didn't have a navy equipped to perform a military invasion by sea.

Australia's involvement in Vietnam roughly parallels U.S. involvement. Australians initially supported the efforts and them abruptly turned against it after the Tet offense.

The Australian military forces in Vietnam was a fraction of the U.S. forces. The Australians used ground maneuvering tactics against the NVA and Viet Cong, instead of fire bases like the U.S. Still, the Australians receive 6% casualty compared to the U.S. 10% casualty.

I don't have any links to share, because this information is coming from the top of my head. You can probably find more information (and verify my information) by going to Wikipedia.

What "threat of Communism" in Australia? The "domino effect" theory that was an excuse for the Vietnam War, has been discredited lang ago.

It's just that every time a right-wing government is in power in Australia, they follow blindly every folly and paranoia of the US administration in power at the time.
