RTV is an acronym for your garden variety "silicone seal" goop. GE developed this stuff ages ago as a solution to sealing problems on their own gas turbine generators.

Most RTV is NOT rated for high temperature use. The instructions are correct in specifying that you find and use an RTV material rated for use in this application. Any decent auto parts shop will have it under one brand or another.

It is a silicon based compound that is used to seal all types of things, from windows to cars.
