The wii is awesome, and worth every penny. The only hard part is finding one, they're still pretty hard to come by because they sell out within minutes of being stocked. It comes with a nunchuck, wii mote, wii sports (fun, play it with friends, before you know it three hours have went by).
Also, get wii points (you have to buy them in the store) but they allow you to download some great classic games like games for the N64, SNES, Genesis and others. (Wario Woods, Super Mario bros, the zelda games etc.). You'll need a classic controller for them. Memory card wise, the games can be saved onto the wii without a memory card, but if you have the extra money, buy a memory card for back-up.
A good part of the wii is also the bonus features such as the voting chanel and creating mii's. Though you can't play dvd's or music on the wii, it more than makes up for it with its gameplay. Its great alone or with friends and it does give you a workout. A few hours of wii sports...and you might be sore the first few times.

Get the Wii!!!!! My girlfriend and I have one and wii love it!!! Zelda is simply amazing; it return's to Zelda's roots, much like on N64 with the Ocarina of Time. Wii Sports, which comes with the console, is also a blast. My friends are constantly coming over to my apartment (an hour drive for them!) to play the Wii. One of the best parts of the system is making a Mii character for everyone that plays. It is both hilarious and amazing how you can make each person's Mii look like that person!!! Trust me, I have bought many a things in my life that I have regreted several wiiks later, but I have had no such feelings with this purchase. The only question should be whether you should wait in line all night for one, hahaha. If you see one in a store, don't pass it up!!!!!

it all depends.
the wii isn't right for everyone. I own a wii and I will admit that it is not the perfect system.
however it is close. it is the only system that my parents and sister enjoy. it is capable of providing countless hours of entertainment. not to mention the price tag isn't too outrageous. being the cheapest new system on the market certainly gives the nintendo wii a major advantage over the hefty ps3 and the xbox360.
personally, I would buy a wii over any of the other systems out there.
if you choose to get games with it, go with the Legend of Zelda:Twlight Princess for a start. that game is an excellent way to get accustomed to the wii's controlling.
after that a racing game might be fun, but then you might be the type of person who enjoys fighting games. it all depends on what types of games you like. I personally love rpg's. however on the wii, I plan to retry a lot of other genres of games. strictly because you play them in an all new fashion. sports games always bored me to death, they might be a blast on the wii.
