Nickelback is amazing. Try listening to some of their earlier stuff too. 3 Doors Down, Default, Skillet, U2, Staind, Crossfade, Metallica, Megadeth, Audioslave, Alter Bridge, Breaking Benjamin, Hinder, Hoobastank, Lifehouse, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Stone Temple Pilots, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Rascal Flatts, Shinedown Switchfoot. Make sure you check out Course of Nature. Just a few I like.

Well I am a rock fanatic so I would have to say
1. My Chemical Romance
2. Billy Talent
3. Black Crowes
4. Envy on the Coast
5. Counting Crowes
6. Guns n' Roses
Those are my top six bands if you like every genre

probably not your taste, but I grew up in the age of Punk and New Wave (late 70's -early 90's) as far as music goes, so my tastes still reflect those times. Blondie, The Ramones, Sex Pistols, Talking Heads, The Cars and lots of underground stuff like The The, Shriekback, The Uncles, Xymox, Alphaville, Thrill Kill Kult, lawd.....the list is endless!!! Oh, and for new bands, I LOVE Panic! at the Disco, LCD Soundsystem, Rosie Thomas, James Blunt, They Might Be Giants......

Yeah, you're right its always good to find some good new music.

I love indie (and some almost pop-like upbeat stuff) and some personal favourites of mine at the moment that are not hugely widely known are:

"Tryin' To Help" - Orson
"Tsunami" - Steriogram (Love this band - a gem-like discovery :)
"Camisado" - Panic! at the Disco
and
"21st Century" & "Wet sand" - Both Chili Peppers songs, Stadium Arcadium

Well broad area to ask, but some of my fave's are Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese dream for a bit of rock, Unkle - Never Never Land for chilled dancy tunes, Evil Nine for some dirty beats, John Martyn - Solid air for beautiful folky tunes.
Could carry on for hours, far too much good music has been recorded over the years!

Megadeth: Countdown to Extinction, The System Has Failed
Savatage: Dead Winter Dead, Handful of Rain, "Hounds" from Gutter Ballet (the rest of the album is good too, but that's the best).
