There is no way to turn off the SRS light without the use of the Honda special diagnostic scan tool (HDS) so you either have to fix the problem or live with the light. Here's some thoughts on those options.

first, whenever the SRS lamp is illuminated the entire supplemental restraint system (airbags) is disabled. The SRS system recognizes that there is a problem in the system and will not allow the system to arm because the unknown nature of the problem could trigger a deployment of the airbags if they were allowed to be armed. So the first point is that the air bags will not work when the SRS light is on.

The second is that the system is called a supplemental restraint system for a reason--the seat belts are your primary safety restraint system. The air bags do not deploy in every collision event, only in the most severe.

The third has to do with the 'side airbag;. There is a sensor in the seat that is used to determine the weight and position of the passenger in that seat in order to make a judgement as to whether or not the side air bag can be safely deployed in a collision event.

If the light that is coming on says "side airbag" and not SRS, then the "problem" is that usually something of weight is on the seat and the system can't tell if that weight is a person or not, so it shuts the side airbag off. if the side airbag light is illuminated, the side air bag will not work but the rest of the system will. The side airbag light will also come on if a small person is in the seat or if the person in the seat is leaning forward or to the side. This is normal operation of the side air bag light.

if the light is the SRS light and the problem is with the seat weight sensor for the side airbag, the only option is to replace the sensor to make the entire system work again. once the sensor is replaced the SRS light will have to be reset. If you want the SRS system to work, you'll need to replace the sensor.

hope that isn't too confusing.
