The US is still the greatest country in the world, but we are quickly slipping. There will always be some things Democrats and Republicans fight about, but here is a list I think we can ALL agree upon:

Iraq War: OK, our intelligence was wrong. There were no WMD's. But, if we leave now, the country will fall apart and they will hate us even more. So let's get the job finished QUICKLY so we can get our boys back home.

Global Warming: Man made or not? Who cares? Quit with all the scare tactics. Our globe is a mess and we need to clean it up, but Al Gore's scare tactics are only causing bickering. So let's clean up our Earth, and get prepared for warmer climate (because even if it is man-made, we can't stop it)

Racism: OK, racism is over. Forget idiots like Michael Richards and Don Imus, it is just as easy for a qualified black man to get a job as a qualified white man. Let's drop the ethnic slurs, let's get rid of Affirmative Action and become a colorblind society. Sorry Jesse and Al, you'll be out of a job.

Any sex offender or murderer goes to prison for life. Why bother rehabilitating them? Anyone who rapes or kills another person or has sex with someone under the age of consent goes to jail. For life. How will this hurt our society?

And last, this is a minor one but it really bothers me. Can’t we get an unbiased news network? CNN and MSNBC lean to the left, and Fox News leans to the right. Can’t we get a news network that just airs ALL the news (not just news they deem worthy –CNN-), and doesn’t tell us how to think about it -Fox News-?

P.S. I asked this before, but it got quickly bumped to the back.

Yes, even with it's many flaws America will remain the greatest country on Earth. The Republicans will see that it does.

The U.S. will remain the greatest country ever, long after she's gone (hopefully not anytime soon). We're creating history every day.

Iraq war- I'm over it. I don't care if they fall apart or not. Freedom comes with responsibility, and holding up their own democracy is their responsibility. If they aren't up to the task then it's their own failure. We have our own to tend to. We toppled a dictator, and thoroughly determined that there are no weapons of any danger to us. Call a win a win, and walk away. Lowering ourselves to fight such a pitiful enemy as "terrorists" is like getting into a fist fight with a retarded kid. Even if you win, you don't really win. Our continual focus on the little retards just validates their tactics, and cause, to the entire middle east. At some point we're going to have to act like the bigger man, because we are.

Global Warming- I'm pretty sure it's just a fear of change that drives people to worry about this. So the weather's getting warmer- did we think it would always stay the same? The people arguing about it seem most focused on blame than solutions, which is probably for the best. If we even could halt the progress of change in the world, should we?

Racism: It's not over yet. Sorry man, we're still dealing with the repercussions of centuries of that nonsense, and it's gonna take a few generations before everyone can set aside their grudges. It's guys like Jesse and Al who slow it down, but they're old. It'll just take time.

Jail for life: The bill alone would take a mighty toll on our society. Sex Offenders is a complicated issue. Be careful about throwing that term around loosely. Personally, I believe that violent rape and pedophilia should be punishable by death. That's extreme, however, for cases where high school kids are having consensual sex against their parents wishes, in which case the older of the two (even the girl) is technically a sex offender. If we intend to get stricter on punishment for murder, then we need to ease up on what's justified. There are personal offenses under which I believe it should be considered permissable to take a persons life (for example if a man harms your family). Why demand justice of society when you can take it yourself? Personally, I suspect it would lift a massive burden off our legal system. Who's going to touch a girl when you know her father is legally allowed to hunt you down and kill you in your sleep?

As for the last one, I've heard the complaint before, and from my position, CNN and BBC actually are objective. They weren't so much leaning left, as leaning ON the right, which is kind of their job as the fourth institution. Balanced coverage was harder to do when a single party controlled every branch of government. Now that the Dems have Congress, they seem to do a fairly good job of blasting both sides equally and impartially. All the news sounds good on paper, but isn't terribly practical. People would just change channels when it got boring, and they'd be out of business.

By "great" I don't know what you mean. Americans will consider their country great, whereas others may not. From a purely economic and military standpoint: No America will not remain great. China and India are catching up though they will need some reforms if they want to achieve superpower status. I agree with all of your sentiments, except that racism is not over. Its far from over, its still harder for a black man to get a good job because statistically, white people are better educated. I agree with the rest though, does it matter really about global warming? The fact is, that its occuring and something needs to be done about it pronto. Though your views on crime, I dont know. I support rehab, I think its a moral responsibility to try and reeducate. If someone murders though, it would depend on the circumstances, premeditated, etc... America has it good, and it will continue to have it good for awhile, but they need to start showing some restraint if they want to continue to be a leader that has the respect of the rest of the world.

It has been the greatest, but it has lost it's edge as teaching entitlement grows. We have come complacent. The liberals hate the rich because they have quit contributing to society. Their answer to the lack of contribution to society is create entitlements so the poor can also not contribute.

As fossil fuels dwindle without and economically viable replacement the greatness of the US will diminish. The degree on peace these last couple of generations have know will also diminish.

Yes it is possible to change this, but it requires thinking outside the box. In the documentary Cadillac Desert hints at a solution without even knowing it is!

I guess the answer is that everyone views thing differently. I do not think all of Iraq hates us. In fact, I know they don't. Al Gore does not scare me. The news if for profit - it will always be leaning. Now the racism thing I agree with you whole-heartedly. I have always seen that the modern day civil rights leaders are too invested in it to want it to $top.

Edit - and I think you have contributed much more here than your first response poster has.

NeoCons are continually chuffed to hammer away at our u . s . a . whilst a Democrat is in place of work. If NeoCons may well be this patriotic whilst a Democrat is in place of work, then i'm going to be inspired. it is not going. this is in all probability in 2010 we are going to be talking approximately impeachment court circumstances for the two Obama or Clinton. Yeah, this is incorrect to be indignant approximately an impeached president, whilst the impeachment replaced right into a SHAM. Oh yeah, they hammer at him whilst he's out of place of work too. See: Jimmy Carter. could have been extra efficient? So the fact is a foul ingredient now?

This country will remain the greatest there is so long as the Americans that are here are the greatest people. It takes a great person to have power and humbleness, leadership and integrity, truth and honesty wrapped in a healthy portion of love, kindness and compassion and still be able to be a world class person. Most Americans possess these traits and instilling them into our leaders as requisites to office this country could remain the best for ever.

I think we lost the "greatest" claim some time in the past !! Many developing countries are growing their markets and economies faster than us. Our education is so far behind India, China, New Zealand, Viet Nam......that we need to import Master and PhDs to the maximum allowed by our immigration service. We put more of our people in prison per capita than any other developed country. Health care is beyond over 1/4 of our citizens. Our government openly lies to us and classifies much of its workings as "secret" so that we citizens can't criticize their failings. We treat our own population as terrorists and subject them to body searches and seizures without protection of the constitution.
No, Sir.....the United States isn't even in the top ten on the "wonderful" country list.

All great countries and empires have risen and fallen. The U.S. will be no different. Its just a matter of time! I wish things were different, but history is cyclical and repeats itself.

As Jorge Santayana, the Spanish philosopher, said, "Those who forget history are doomed to repeat it."

I would have to say no.
For decades now I have been watching my neighbours to the south and comparing them to "The Rise and Fall of the Roman Empire". That ancient history and our modern history seem to run in a parallel road.
It also odd that last year I heard that many international politicians and their counterparts have been calling the States, "the new Rome". When I first heard of that I thought to myself ....they're just cluing in now?
