My friend is moving from Atlanta to Calgary and needs help finding a place to live.. I live in BC so I don't know the area at all! She'll be working as a nurse at Rockyview hospital, so would like to be convenient to it, preferably on public transit so if it snows she's not stuck (southern gal you know!).

Complications include one teenage son, and she smokes (unpopular to landlords!). Does anyone have any suggestions for a neighbourhood to look in? The neighbourhood names mean nothing to either of us so it's hard to look up rentals :)

Gee...I remember a hockey team that made that very same move about 28 years ago.

Maybe the local realtors can point you/her in the right direction:

The closest neighbourhoods to the Rockyview are:

Brittania, Elboya, Altadore (north)
Windsor Park, Belaire, Mayfair, Kelvin Grove (east)
Chinook park, Haysboro, Pump Hill, Palliser (south, southwest)
There is a small lake to the west of the hospital.

I hope these help.

Is she looking for an apartment? If so, Boardwalk Rental Communities is a fairly reputable company for rentals.

Three Boardwalk properties not too far from the Rockyview are Heritage Gardens, Flintridge Place and Lakeside Estates. You can Google map them right from the websites below, to get an idea about their proximity.

Calgary is divided into four sections, Rockyview Hospital is in the SW quadrant. A nice area in that quadrant is Midnapore, but it isn't close-in to the hospital ...

(Will add more after we look at a map, we don't live there anymore, but used to live in a Condo in Midnapore)

Braside, woodbine, cederbrea, Oakridge, Chinook are a few neighberhoods that are near Rockyview. Basically tell her to stick to the SW mostly.

Elbow Valley, is one of the nicest neighborhoods. It is expensive though. THey do have houses joined together though. Also they are building a new Elbow Valley West.
