They are built by the same company. MTD ownes both Yard Machines and Cub Cadet. Cub is treated as the premium brand by MTD, and the 3 year warranty is nice. If you do buy a Cub Cadet, buy it from a dealer who can service it. Lowe's, Home Depot, and Wal-Mart cannot honor the warranty. Only a servicing dealer can.

My dad USED to love his Cub Cadet (his is a rider) but the new ones are not worth it he says! He's had his repaired 10 times in 3 years.... The 20 yr old one was only repaired 5 times...

I have a cub cadet (riding mower) and it just won't quit. It's a really good machine and rated very nicely in consumer's report. I think yard machines is not as good.

cub cadet is far a better machine than a yard machine it is way better built and far less problems than a yard machine which is a cheap machine and will give you problems in two or three years
