No pun intended, but the Lakers will playing whoever is the 2nd seed if the playoffs started today. However, hypothetically, I think the Lakers chances does not increase or decrease depending on their opponent. If Kobe is on the court, the Lakers will be competing. He is the type of player that can go off at anytime. There is no way Bowen nor any other Spurs players can stop him.
To further disprove your point that they don't matchup well with the Spurs, here are some statistics. The Lakers played the Spurs three times this year winning 2 of them, and losing only by 2 points in the lost. Here are the scores:
L 94-96
W 100-96
W 106-99
As for the Suns, they did play them close, however, they lost 2 out of 3. Here are the scores:
L 107-115
L 94-99
W 114-106
The reason why the Lakers will not win the Western Conference is because they will need to get thru dominating teams in either Spurs, Mavs, Rockets, Suns, and Jazz. Do they have a chance? Absolutely, only if Kobe can put up 50 points each night.
In regards to Kobe being a ball hog, you are deceiving yourself. I believe Kobe is the best player in the League this season and I think he should be the MVP, however, to say that he is not a ball hog is just ridiculous. Everyone knows that he's a ball hog because he puts up shots after shots. Does that mean I'm jealous? No. Does that mean he sucks? No. He's a great player and he needs to be a ball hog to make the Lakers a contender.
Last but not least, the Lakers already have a great player in Lamar Odom. He is versatile and can do many things on the floor. I don't believe that they need another great player to win the big one. What they need are some role players to fill some holes that they have defensively.

yea i agree...the spurs are big and can matchup well and even better with the lakers.
when we play the suns its much closer games and more exciting than a defensive battle than the spur
kobe steps up always to help his team whether hes scoring 35 or dishing for assists jus depending on what the team needs
with that said the lakers should definitely shoot for the suns and maybe next year a good draft pick will make this laker team even greater

it doesn't matter who they play (suns or the spurs). the lakers will lose to either team. the suns and spurs are the definition of a "team" and the lakers are the definition of a "one man show". the "team" will always beat the "one man show".
btw - nice 9/30 effort kobe had last night in a game the lakers had to have if they wanted to avoid the suns

Rember last year the Suns also didnt have Amare, so they have improved since last year...I rather see them play Spurs, I think it would be a better series, cause Kobe is one of the best at scoring against the half court defense...They dont play good enough defense to slow down PHX, and they dang sure aint gonna out score them.

Suns cause the Lakers need revenge on them from last year and i think Lakers can make the championship cause of Kobe but if Kobe doesnt score atleast 40+ they will lose and its not Kobe's fault that he had so much points over 40 he did it cause his team barely dont do anything but rebound and sh**. Kobe needs to score. He is a scorer so he should score. duh
