Ok well I was walking to get the mail when I saw my cat playing with a snake in the grass. I ran and found a cooler to put it in. I put the cooler in front of the snake, but it didn't go in. So I got a stick to try and push it in, it went in!!! So I closed the lid and then thought, well now I want to look at it, and try to take a picture of it. So I moved it to a tall trash can and took a picture of it. I think it is a Texas Rat Snake. But what should I do with it now? Kill it? Let it go somewhere else? Take it to a snake sanctuary? I just don't know!

If you have a lake or a field to release it into, do that. If not, take it to a snake sanctuary.
Hope it helps!

That's great that someone from a snake sanctuary is comming to get it! I'm so happy you didn't kill it. You did the right thing. The other altenative would have been to take it somewhere that is government protected, like a state park or riparian area and let it go.
If it is in fact a rat snake, you really had nothing to worry about concerning your child, although if it's big enough it might eat chicken eggs. I would be more concerned about the cat killing the snake (and thus killing one of nature's best rodent-killers) than the snake actually causing harm to anything. They are nonvenomous and are much more afraid of you than you are of them. Thank you for doing what you did; there are too many people who would have killed it without asking questions.

You should take it to a wildlife reserve and release it far away from people. Best thing to do. I will warn you that I heard some rattlers if you relocated them they will come back even if it's miles away. I am not sure about rat snakes though give it a try. ( if it's still in the cooler give it some water so it doesn't get dehydrated.)

The snake will not bother you or your family but if your that worried about it let it go away from your house.

Eat it. Take the skin off, slice up the belly starting at the anus. Pull all the entrails out and discard, cook the meat. Careful of the bones.

Call the animal control and ask them what you should do. I'm not familiar with snakes as I live in alaska, but if I were unsure I would call animal control. Don't kill it. They can help!
good luck

If you didn't have a place to put it, why did you catch it? Take it back to where you found it and let it go.
