In the manifold there is a set of buterflt valves .
the shaft has worn out and 1 of the plates fell off .

I cannot find a used one, can i remove the shaft alltogether and plug the shaft hole? what is the purpose of this shaft anyway ?

it is the intake as the plate that fell off was found next to the intake valves ,and the shaft being loose is causing a bad vacume leak..
yes its the middle part of the manifold

the dealer sells it for 400 and change you can try what your doing if it doesn't work buy a new one i don't see why it wont work those things rattle like crazy when the car gets a lot of miles on them for me i get paid to replace them so i do if it were my car i would take them off

I dont think you are talking about the intake manifold,you must be talking about the exhaust manifold,if so these flaps as you call them regulate the engine warm up during cold weather and there should be some around some where-junk yards maybe or on line at e-bay motors.

are thease in the middle manifold and there are 6 butterflys they open on hard throttle to alow a more direct air flow as far as removeing them it will still run ok but i am not sure if it will caues any emission problems
