Im trying to start up a handmade card website, but would like to have the wording (ie happy birthday or wedding invitation etc etc) printed on the front beforehand so that I can just add my design. I feel this would create a more professional look as opposed to just sticking the wording on using the pre printed stickers. Can anyone advise me of anywhere I can have this done? Will any printing company do this? Or somewhere on the web?

Check out Vistaprint at www.vistaprint.co.uk They are amazing & do all sorts at very reasonable prices. I would imagine that they would be able to help you.

You would need at least 300 cards of each wording for printing to be viable from your local printer. With printing the more you get the lower the price per sheet.

There are hot foil blocking printing machines on the market and you could print your own. Depending on whether you buy new or secondhand it would cost about £1500 to £3000 pounds to set up. Contact David Chill from Versatility in Print e-mail davchill@aol.com website www.hotfoil.uk.com

You can print the card directly on an inkjet printer up to about 250g/m maybe 280g/m but you risk damaging the printer and inkjet ink may not be waterproof (check your manual). Thinner card does not give a quality feel. You could print on thinner card, cut it out maybe with a fancy edge and mount it on your card.

Craft Creations supply some card blanks with pre-printed text which you can buy direct from their catalogue or website. I think you would need permission to use them if you are selling a lot of cards. www.craftcreations.com

When you say pre printed stickers do you mean sticky labels or peel off stickers. I don't think peel offs look unprofessional. There are a wide variety of typestyles & colours and they are inexpensive compared to printing. Craft Creations will make custom designs for you if you want something exclusive - ask them for prices and minimum quantities.

I perosnally recommend that you don't get preprinted cards. The reason I don't is because if you are wanting to have "handmade cards" then preprinting would not be handmade it would be pre-made, even if you put on your own personal design. i recommend that use stamps, die cuts or rubons for the lettering, that way it still has the handmade appearance and not prepreinted/handmade. I know if I thought I was buying a handmade card and rec'd and and noticed that the lettering and design didn't match I wuold not be a satisfied customer and then would not recomend that seller or website in your case to my firends and family.

Why not run the card stock through your printer, or use calligraphy to get the wording on? I think the wording is supposed to be part of the design?

You can't sell someone else's pre-printed stickers as your own design, and plus customers won;t buy something they would be able to do themselves.

You can buy CD Rom's such as Verse Editor to design whatever lettering you want, then print it yourself-this will prove to be cheaper and more manageable than going to a Printer. It also means you only print however many you need at that time and you don't have to carry a huge amount of stock. You can find them on www.createandcraft.tv and they also have demonstrations on their TV show on Sky. One important point ~ you need to buy from "ANGEL" companies,a community of Craft companies happy for you to use their products/designs to make cards for resale ~ not all of them do,and you can run into copyright problems,so it's always best to check first. Happy Crafting !
