Laser works best on dark hair. Three treatments are usually required as the hair follicle has a cycle and thereafter the hair won't grow back. You may need to go back now and then for a touch up. As for pain, it depends on your pain threshhold. It feels like a very sharp pin prick but is tolerable. There will be some redness so ice immediately and it will subside. As for age, wouldn't that vary from state to state - ask the salon where you intend to go. They will ask for ID when you complete the forms. It is worth the expense!

First...I would not go just anywhere for this treatment. It might be more expensive, but I would go to a dermatologist. I have very sensitive skin and if I have any problems, I need a doctor to be able to help me if there are complications.

You can have the treatment done pretty much anywhere you have hair. Though would not recommend for the women's female area.

My very first experience was very bad, but that was over 10 years ago. I have what is considered the ideal skin and hair color combo - light skin/dark hair. When I was tested with the actual laser, I max out the equipment with what I could tolerate without burning. However, that was not using the numbing cream. At the time fo the actual treatment I was told to put the cream on half hour before treatment. I ended up having an allergic reaction to the combo of the laser plus the cream. had scabs all over my face.

If you need the numbing cream you can usually get it from a doctor's office doing the laser treatment. I opt to go without and prefer ice pack and advil.

Fast forward 5 years, I am now at a new dermatologist and have been having treatments with a new laser and have never had the same issue again. It feels like somebody snapping a rubber band on my wrist rather hard. The only place that hurts a bit is underneath my chin and on my upper lip. you can't really tense those areas at all, so it just zaps you. Of course this all depends on your threshhold for pain.

you will require a number of treatments for the hair to not come back. I believe I am up to about 6 or 7 for my face. I have very dark, very stubborn hair. There is no age limit so far as I am aware. Insurance will not cover this procedure as it is technically considered cosmetic. It is 100% out of pocket expense paid in full at time of treatment, unless the place you go to has payment options.

The treatment itself is very expensive. My doctor charges me about $600 per session when I am having my face and my stomach done. I think it is like $250 for the face and $350 for my stomach.

Success depends if you are a good candidate, if you go to someone who knows what they are doing and if the right equipment is used. I 5 treatments 6 years ago and have not had regrowth. The pain is dependent on where you are getting the treatment done and how dense the hair is in those areas. Generally speaking, the face isn't too bad and it feels like a snap. Subsequent treatments hurt less.

My friend has this done on her face and she had to go back several times because hair grows in cycles and she needed touch-ups. It did hurt her a bit and she had some redness like a sunburn for a few days after each session. I believe you must be 18 to have this done, or have parental permission.
