I am a capricorn. In school I did well, not straight A, but a solid B student. If I applied myself a little more I could have made straight A's.
I notice though as I get older eotk has become and extremely importat issue for me. I strive to be the best that I can be. I work, work, work, untill I am basically told it is time for you to go. It doesn't bother me that I don't get paid extra. I love to work.
Does it take the place of affection...I don't know. I feel a job well done is the best thing I can strive for

I'm not even a Capricorn, but speaking as someone who doesn't settle for less, it has nothing to do with replacing love and affection. People can get that or any of its generic substitutes anywhere if they look for it.
The fact is, a B is not as good as an A. When it comes to calculating GPA, that 1 point (or whatever the difference is in quality points) can help immensely.
Plus, if you know you can do better, then why not do it?

its not just capricorns that are obsessed with getting good grades. Thats where your prejudice is showing because it can be ANYBODY. why settle for a B which is 3 points on your GPA when you can get an A which is 4 points? and A- is still a A. an extra point. colleges have what they call "quality points" its points given for earned grades the higher the score at the end of the degree term the better seat you get. yes its some form of distiguishment, but it doesnt take the place of love and affection.
its one part of self-worth, GPA does not always prove your intelligence but it shows that your good at something, which makes you feel better about your self thus give you the impression that your worthy of something. like when parents give their children rewards for good grades, they are WORTHY of that reward. this is not a good practice of rewarding material possessions its better for praises instead because then the need of motivation then becomes extrinstic instead of instrinstic, which can dweddle over time.

Because we Capricorn folk (I'm a January 3rd baby) often have perfectionism in our natures *huge smile*
I know I'm guilty as charged where that is concerned. I am anything but pefect, but it doesn't stop me trying to be, and holding myself (and others, I might add!) to a very very high standard of behaviour.
It has nothing to do with self worth. We know exactly what we want, and how to get it, and we won't let anyone stand in our way. We also know exactly how we see the world, and very rarely will we let anyone sway us from that. Stubborness is one of the biggest traits of any Capricorn I know, myself included.
High achievement, in my view, is not what society deems it to be (lots of money etc, etc.) to me, high achievement is being happy in life (which I most certainly am). Love and affection figure very prominently in my life, and that's just the way I like it! *smile*
The best way to describe anyone who shares the sign is a "mixed bag". You'll find both ends of a spectrum in almost every capricorn individual's personality. It is one of the things that makes us so special!

Capricorns (particularly males) are born old, and hopefully, grow younger with time. It is just their way. They take responsibility extremely seriously. Work, duty and family come naturally to them. What doesn't come naturally is fun, spontenatiety and adventure. They have to work at the later.
Don't think they aren't loving however. They have a deep and hidden emotional side. You get to see it every once and a while. Just don't get too excited when they reveal themselves, because it will not become a habit with them.
If you love a capricorn, you will have to 'help' him be a child. They have many wonderful qualities that will outweight the few that drive you nuts.

Well, I too am a Capricornus which is the Greek mythical creature known as a Sea Goat. The Sea Goat rescued Zeus the Greek God from being devoured by his father, and thus ended up perfecting Zeus's life. Due to this, Capricons are known to be perfectionists, which I am. I guess we just enjoy being at the top of our class and like getting the highest possible point figure. Don't be sad though, due to the fact that it is this that drives you to become better then the person next to you or even maybe your class.

Not all Capricorns are obsessed with getting A's and B's, they do have an affection and love for their interests and goals. I know these several Capricorns in this Extended Algebra class I see no achievements only obsessions to guys and clothing brands.

I am a Capricorn and I think settling for anything is against the Cap's nature. Also, we have a good, if not great, work ethic. Chances are, if we have a test we have studied for it. We have prepared for it. And if a B is the otucome, we probably are not going to be pleased/satisfied.
And, I don't think achievement in a Cap's mind superceeds love. But, alot of a Cap's worth is defined thru success of their carreer-whether it be professional or scholarly.

Your question reflects how astrology is pretty good at assessing behavior in people sometimes.
Their sign, particularly in youth, is usually geared towards achievement. Not all are oriented to doing it in school or with academic work, but they are very achievement oriented, at whatever they do. (See the difference in Caps Tiger Woods and Kid Rock)
Yes, it is seen as self worth, in a way. And from what I know about them they work to get to the top and then look for love and affection.
Don't try to change this person. You probably won't.
Just temper their beliefs with good doses of your opinions and fact. You could say: Not getting all As doesn't make you a bad person or not good.
And if he/she overworks him/herself, then be there to show them love and affection.
Give snacks while they study, etc.
But know this type of achievement mentality is in their nature.

Speaking as a Capricorn, it's true that the view is better from the top of the mountain. I expect the absolute best from myself and anything less is a disappointment. The drive to be the best is a personal commitment, not dependent on the outside world's perception of what is acceptable.
