It is much easier to put the blame on someone else.
In society, it is being more and more accepted to put blame on someone or something else. For example - how many people get out of murder because they were abused as a child? They had post-partum depression? Or it's someone's fault.
Same with getting obese. It is very, very difficult for someone to accept and admit - hey, I'm fat because I don't want to exercise. Or it's easier for me to get this burger and fries then go to the store, go home, and make a salad. People know what makes them fat - they don't care. Usually, obesity and laziness go hand in hand. This is just the perfect example of that.

I'll take the other side of the argument, since it might help you with whatever assignment this is for.
Yes, people should take responsibility for their actions.
But the advertising ploys of fast food restaurants and the fact that they load their products with MSG (an addictive additive) and the "normalization" of bad food, it has become a normal part of life to eat food every day that has no business being eaten more than twice a month at most.
People are raised in this culture, and it's hard to break away from it, much like a drug addiction. People aren't used to having to go to the store and buy fresh vegetables and prepare their own food.
The problem is how normal society has made eating fast food. That is why people are obese. Take soda, for example. It's one of the most horrible things you can put into your body as far as sugar and calorie content, but the average person thinks it's normal to drink 3 or 4 a day!
It's just a cultural issue that needs to be reversed. People need to become more educated on the dangers of poor diets. And the advertisers and fast food chains exploit this cultural weakness.

I'm sorry I hate it when people blame the fast food industry for obesity. Marketing to kids doesn't mean anything. Kids don't have money, parents have money. Blame parents for fat kids because they are the one being lazy and feeding their kids fast food. It's common knowledge that anything fried is not good for you. So why do fat people keep eating? Because they have no motivation to change their ways. People are fat because of their lifestyle and possibly genes. However, they can be healthy! And that's not eating at fast food places. Also, there are no addicting chemicals in fast food. The only thing addictive about fast food is the taste for some people. Also there is nutrition information available for nearly all fast food giants. You can find it online or request it at the local establishment.

Okay here is why fat people (which i am fat) blame fast food resturants for their obesity. Why not blame a muti-million dollar company for your problems and then say its because the food is fatting. I guess the vat full of lard in which their french fries were cooked didn't tip them off. They were not only hungry for food but money as well.

It's easier to blame someone else ...even a restaurant...rather than yourself for not being able to discipline yourself by not over-eating there or eating the more healthful foods when you are there. It's also easier than going home to prepare an evening meal or brown-bagging a low calorie lunch to have at work.

Some of these people often times blame them for injuries related to their obesity. You should watch the movie ''Supersize Me''. It's a documentary which explains your question a little bit.

They blame restaurants because they refuse to accept responsibility for themselves. It is much easier to point the finger at someone else for their shortcomings.
