That really depends. It could be part of his coloration and you would never be able to get rid of it. If the spots appear fuzzy or cottony then it could well be a fungus in which case you should treat with a good fungus remedy from the pet store. There are other causes of spotting like this, but those are by far the two most common.

If the spots look like salt on your fish, it could have ich and you should get a medication right away to treat your tank.

This has nothing to do with your question, but I bought two beta and put them in the same fish bowl. Well! let just say only one fish was left swimming and the other was just all bones. (Sorry!)

Its a fungus and it can kill the fish, you can go to the pet store and they can give you something for the water and to treat the fish.
