Depends on who you're listening to. The same has been said about democrats.

In whose eyes are Republicans racist, sexist and stupid?
Your teacher of course is correct about the Southern Democrats in the 1800's. Lincoln, a Republican, was the Emancipator.

You must understand that Democrats and Republican are only the names of parties, using the terms Conservatives and Liberals. Conservatives have constantly ignored racial injustice saying it is sociaties problem, not something government should get involved in. The parties have swapped ideology in the past 100 years for various reasons. It used to be that many southern conservatives would vote for democrats only because they refused to belong to a party that Licoln was in. That has changed. It is also the times you live in, now that Democrats are in control of congress for the first time in 12 years, they are doing a little bit of pay back for how they were treated in the minority, and are uncovering scandal and scandal. Conservatism is a ligitiment way to run a government, but it leaves a lot more room for corruption than Liberalism. My recomendation: wait until you take US goverment in high school or collegeand you will understand a lot more.

Back in the late 1800's the overwhelming majority of Southern whites were Democrats merely because the Republicans controlled the government during the Civil War. A long time has passed since then. Neither party is what it used to be. Look at today, not 1876.

It is a stereotype. Sure there are racist, sexist and stuipd repubs-- but there a same types in the dem party.
Dems of the 1800's are not the same as dems of today. Nor are republicans. Dems back then were conservative.
to the person below me-- come to Arizona if you want to see republican public school teachers--- They're primarily repubs. And if you're a dem-- look out.

Ok, first off it's not the 1800's anymore.
And this may come as a shock to you, but a lot of things have changed since then.
I don't really think of Republicans as racist, sexist, or stupid. Sure there are some, but there's Dems like that too.
My biggest beef with Repubs is I think they are self-centered and incapable of putting themselves in another man's shoes.

The Dixiecrats jumped ship and joined the Republicans in the 60's, when the Democratic Party stopped supporting their platform. Some stayed, like Robert Byrd, but most, like Strom Thurmond, changed parties.

Stereo types!! Everyone has them and that is Republicans Some people Like to preach against Stereo types and then label people during doing so. It's a vicious cycle that won't ever end.
There are all three of those types of people in every political party that exists, and if Democrats can't see that they are blind to facts.. Oh wait that's a given.

I don't think there's such a thing as a republican school teacher, except in private schools. Republicans wouldn't participate in ruining young peoples' lives with foolish ideas, as government school teachers have done. The republicans only have the image of being racist, sexist and stupid among young, pierced, tattooed, skateboarders. Everyone else is smart enough not to fall for such an obviouis and childish characterization. Do I get the "best answer" prize?

Does the name Strom Thurmond ring a bell? Also people like Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannitty, and a long list of right-wing blowhards on radio and TV have garnered a reputation of hate-mongering for the GOP. It is unfortunate but true.

The Republican and Democrat Parties of today are not the same parties of years gone by. Totally different in many ways.
Stupid is a generic term used by both sides. Racist maybe because the south is mostly Republican and there are still issues over here. But not all are racists but people like to sling mud.
