Technology begets efficiency.
Efficiency maximizes profits.
Efficiency requires downsizing.
As technology leaps forward, fewer people are needed to do the same work. Jobs are lost. Those who ARE still needed are able to make more money, and the rest are laid off.
Yes, America is headed in the direction of becoming Land of the Impoverished, Ruled by the Wealthy.

It's called the Middle Class Squeeze: Health care, housing, energy, and education costs all go up far in excess of inflation while wages remain stagnant, or higher-paid jobs are exported, leaving cheaper service jobs for them. Meanwhile, Corporate CEO's award themsevles multi-million compensation, even when they're dringing their corporations into the ground. All this is done with the approval of the Republican Party, the party of the rich and corporations. They get the middle class to vote for them by stirring up fear and loathing of the lower class, and by distracting them with shiny religious baubles and social concerns like, "All that Holywood sleaze!" as if the business party would really do anything to harm the profits of that business!

It's already headed in that direction.
even the so-called middle class are feeling the pinch. They are learning to live from paycheck to paycheck. Everyday we hear about good-paying jobs beng lost; US companies merging (and firing people); US companies folding; not to mention that every time you call some still existing large US conglamorate, you are connected to someone in India...
Couple that with the tens of thousands of bankruptcies being filed every year (and still growing).Couple that with the number of "middle-class' who are using one credit card to pay off another, or maxing out their credit cards; --- just follow the money, if you have any.....
(anyone can purchase a television set. Extended families are now living together just to have a roof over their heads, and I'm not so certain that potato chips, soda, and McDonald's are exactly classified as "3 squares" - even for the so-called Middle Class who will become "poor' in a matter of a decade or so...)

Yes, I see it -- more accurately, I smell it. It's called the government, lowering the successful to the level of the poor as opposed to encouraging the opposite. All the while, the government administrators of this are becoming more and more wealthy, thus widening the "gap" (or perhaps manifesting it) between poor and rich further than they ever imagined.

Did you know that the vast majority of American poor have TVs, 3 meals a day, a place to live, a car, and the opportunity to advance. Now tell me about your country.
