Sales is an easy way to make a living.... if you have a tallent for it. Or if you are like me, really bad at sales, it is one of the hardest ways there is!

If you can come up with an original product with a high demand, or with a high demand product at a reasonable price, then yes - people will buy things from you "just because." (because you have it and they want it.)

How much it will cost you to start a sales business is really up to you. For example, I make a little extra money selling CDs. The content on them is copyrighted information from a book, and the author has given me sole permission to reproduce his work. In my case, I already had a printer and CDs. It cost me some time and under $20 to get started... I had to produce the product and a website to sell it from, and I had to buy labels, envelopes, stamps, and plastic cases to mail the CDs in.

Now, if you want to start up a big business that will bring in a large income, then that will be a whole different story. It is hard to get money to start up a business. And there are a lot of things that you need to know ahead of time, such as legal issues and how to handle taxes and inventory.

I know there are a lot of offers on the internet to "work from home" doing sales. These aren't very good. I have tried them... You do a lot of cold-calling and get a lot of rude responses. And, you often end up getting stressed out, wasting your time, and loosing money in the process.

What kind of sales are you thinking of doing? Or is this just a general question? Whatever you do, make sure that it is a product or service that you believe in. Telling someone how wonderful something is and how good it will be for them is so much easier when you believe it too : )

It's all relative to your attitude and the amount of effort you put into it. I'm not sure what kind of sales you're in, but let's say client leads or even door to door as an example. If you talk to 100 people in a day, maybe 8-10% (general sales rule----don't quote me though) will say yes which I'll say is 10 people for the day for this example. If you only talk to 10 people, you might get 1 yes, so you have to be willing to talk to 100+ people and get rejected 90 times as opposed to 10 people and only 9 rejections.

Also as a real estate agent, I really believe in focusing on one or two selling points---it's easier to target a market and target potential buyers. For example, a house has one large master bedroom and another has 5 small bedrooms. I want to market the 1 bedroom to an elderly couple who don't have kids. The 5 bedroom will be marketed to a younger generation, a family with a lot of kids. There are endless examples in real estate.

I'm not sure what kind of sales you're in but many of the same rules apply, the more people you talk to the better. Pick a target market and sell mainly to that market. Good luck, think positive.

Find a company with a good sales training program. Work for them until you master sales. Then you can open up any business and be successful.

When you're in sales, you're pretty much selling yourself. If people "buy" you they'll buy the product from you. They have to like you and trust you/relate to you. So, if you're not good at sales you won't be successful just based on a decent product.

It's not the easiest way to make a great living if you're not good at it.

Sweetie, I hate to tell you, but it's that attitude that will keep people from buying. You need confidence. Be confident in yourself and in what you sell!
