A debit card is one that you use at stores and when you swipe it the amount is taken directly out of your bank account. A credit card is different in that you have the amount swiped and at the end of the month you are given a monthly statement that adds up all the amounts of things you purchased and you are expected to pay. If you don't pay the full amount you are charged huge amounts of interest until the bill is completely paid off. Both of these cards must be given to you (or approved) by a bank .

A debit card is also called an ATM card. It immediately deducts the amount from your checking account. You must enter a pin number to use the card.
Some debit cards look, and are used, like credit cards. In this case you don't need to enter a pin, but the amount is still deducted immediately from your account.
To get one, you need to open a checking account, and put money in it. All banks will offer you a debit card. You use it at the ATM also to deposit money or transfer funds.

A debit card is basically like a plastic check. You swipe it like a credit card, but you do not get credit, instead the money comes out of your checking account. Needless to say, no checking account, or no money in it.. debit card does not work.

It's a card you get when you open a checkig or sometimes a savings account. Some of them have a Mastercard or Visa logo so you can use them like a credit card, but the money will come right out of your account.
