By God-loving I assume you mean Christian? A true Christian wouldn't hate a "Yankee." People from the north are stereo-typed in the south as being very rude and arrogant. Another fact that angers southerners is that people retire from the north and move to the south because the cost of living is cheaper. I am a college student (from the south) who works as a waitress on the weekends and encounter many people from the north traveling on I-75. Just like any other area, there are some rude northerners, but I have found that most are very nice. Many people from the south are uneducated and raised very prejudiced. Many of them think they are Christians because their "Great Aunt Sally" was one. Any true Christian from the north, south, east, or west would not hate another human being. To hate is the opposite of what our religion is all about. :)

I'm from California and recently moved to Maine. I have been surprised to discover that I hate Yankees too. I've traveled extensively, both domestic and international, and nowhere but Maine have I encountered such a persistently narrow-minded bigotry against everything and everybody. Yankees hate everybody who is not a Yankee. It's not about race, it's not about religion, it's about social class. Yankees believe themselves to be morally superior to everybody else. They are certainly the most despicable hateful people I've ever encountered anywhere. You haven't been shunned, until you've been shunned by a Yankee bigot.
In truth, I have meant a few nice Yankees. They are young, at the bottom of the socio-economic scale, and their only goal in life is to move far, far away from New England.

That's interesting, where are you getting this theory? I have met MANY people from the north who despise southerners and their culture. They make fun of them and infer that they are less intelligent and backward. But, I have yet to meet a southerner that has ever said anything negative about people from the northeast, and I live in the south! I don't think most southerners feel one way or the other about them.
Anyways, aren't we all considered Yankees? Atleast by other countries?
Put down your pizza and pepsi for some fried chicken and sweet tea and don't sweat it.

Most of them don't "hate" yankees. It's the rudeness of yankees that gives most southerners this idea. Southern hospitality...I welcome people into my home, give them food say hello on the street...I went to Boston everyone acted like they had a burr up their rear end...They thought I was dumb because I was from the south...I have a lot of education..can't help the accent..and really don't want to help it.

I am from the south and my father is from New York, and I like northerners. That is sort of a generalization, not everyone feels that way, and where I am there are more northern than southern people

Yankees aren't God, last time I checked. You can love God all you want without loving us "Yanks".

Because the southern people are just pissed off still about the civil war...the Yankees stopped them from their racist ways...actually southern people that say they hate yankees are just white trash hiding behind the bible.
