Honestly, I think they both have positive and negative attributes. While I think it depends on the child, a big part of it is the actual staff. Do they actually like children or are they just there for a pay check? That, in my opinion, makes a huge difference.
On another note, I also believe that how children grow and mature depends on what's going on in the home.

Depends on the state. In Texas, most private schools do not require the teachers to be certified. Most of the private schools have great intentions, but lack of expertise causes many problems.
I have experience teaching in both private and public schools in Texas. I think Texas public schools, for all their shortcomings, are the far better and safer choice than Texas private schools.
Homeschooling, when done by qualified parents (like my sis) outshines both public and private schools. Many colleges and universities are sitting up and taking notice of the leaders being turned out from homeschooling environments.

I believe that going to a public school allows each of the students to get to know every other kind of person. In private schools, they don't really allow their students to interact with their surroundings. Instead, they have strict dress codes, and many other rules that the students and staff must follow.
As a student in public school and having a cousin and friend in private school, i can say right off the bat that being in private school doesn't allow them to meet new people because there are not as many students in private school as there are in public schools, so the students at private schools are constantly with each other in almost every class. On the other hand, in my high school where we have about 3700 students, i meet new people every year and in every class.
Hope this helps!
