Is it a hate crime? Absolutely. Will it be treated as one by the authorities? Doubt it. Wonderful double standard we all get to live with, isn't it.
I am intrigued by some of the responses you got for your post. I didn't read anything in your post to make it reasonable to say you are part of the KKK. I also didn't see anything that said you live in a ghetto. Is that an assumption made because it is a community that has a large number of black people? And the comment that you should stop your complaining and get a job so you can move into a better neighborhood is ludicrous. Can you imagine if someone made this comment to a black person? The outrage would be tremendous!
You should definitely keep a record of the things that are happening to you, and you should call the police and report them whenever they do anything to threaten you. Good luck and I hope things get better for you.
And to Robert, you are a complete waste of space. Please do the world a favor and disappear like the ghost you like to dress up as. Moron!

Fist of the n word has to much history to it. We associate this word with hate, fear, racism, and murder, violence, cruelty and ugliness, and you starting to get the idea? Honky? Never even knew of the word, if someone used the word honky you might hear something like are you serious? is that the best you can do? Who the hell uses that word? The n word is the one of the cruelest words in the english language, the US tried to barry that word. If a word could cause physical pain honky would be a scraped knee whereas the n word would be a stab in the heart. Its not the same honky isn't associate with slavery and violence. Having you ever heard the word honky from a black person and panicked? Im sure you haven't. Not saying its not a bad word but its just not the same and people can give me all the thumbs down they want but really its the truth. I however don't use the n word and anyone who knows me knows not to say that word to me. I also wouldn't ever call someone a honky since i see know use for it and i didn't even know the word existed until i read this and did some research. Either way racism is bad and just because someone got punished and another person doesn't does it make it right? No. Do you want to use to n word because a black person got away with using the "h word'. No because you would still be wrong for doing that. That boy should have been punished because he used a word that really when you think a about white person saying it to a black person you associated with not just racism but cruelty. Honky? really...

Well it would be considered hate crime because it is racially motivated. Just because a Black person attacks a White person with race being the motivation doesn't make it any less of a hate crime than if it was the other way around. Either way it's definitely a crime and should NOT be tolerated.
Edited for bats_fanfilm: Youre right it is ashamed, because I am certain he would get MORE time than if it was a White guy harassing a Black person, in which the case would be a slap on the wrist....if even that. Most of the times the White guy will go free.

If you've put up a fence and security cameras, it sounds to me like you're doing the right thing. If the police don't seem terribly worried about it, document everything that happens, including your calls to the police. Document times, names, what was said, anything that could potentially be relevant later. And keep calling the police. If this is happening regularly and the police are aware of it, they need to do a better job protecting you. That's their duty. If you call and make an official report every time this happens, it's just more evidence to back up your claim later and if you call them every time something happens, eventually they'll get sick of dealing with the problem and do more to help.
Good luck and ignore all of the rude, ignorant answers you're getting on this matter. People always have something negative to say when the situation doesn't affect them or their family!

I think if someone "regardless of race or sex" attacks another person without provocation just to incite fear or violence, then it's all about "hate crimes." I also think racism isn't just a white only term. I think blacks & whites alike can all be racist, which is unfortunate. I'd say document the events as they occur, such as audio & visual, make copies & be sure on the more violent occurances the police are called & dispatched. Be sure on those instances you have proof. Otherwise, it's just a bunch of he said she said you know. Be careful & I hope things improve for you.

It would be labelled a hate crime where I live, in the UK. I'd suggest contacting the police and seeing what they say.
