Sorry Sweetie, but no the girls didn't "DO" anything to be so thoroughly disrespected. It was purely a mistake on the part of Mr. Imus. It started as a tirade on the way the girls have been playing lately between the jockey and a guest host. If you read the dialogue of the conversation, it orginated with an off-color "joke" and pretty much got a little more serious as the insults went on.
To be perfectly honest, as a Black woman, Yes I was offended by the remarks. But, moreover, I also do believe that the situation is being handled a little more harshly because of the other high profile racial slurs that have simply been brushed off depending on how popular the speaker is. (Ex. Imus' comments were jokingly made even though they were very offensive, but Kramer's rant was threaded was some deep seeded psychotic notions of a man who grew up around a few too many bigots!)
To wrap it up I do feel slightly embarrassed for Imus, because I think he's going to be roasted for his despicable comments that he DID make. But it may be a stronger lashing than necessary because hey when is someone gonna pay?
True, freedom of speech is important, but the line should be drawn when your "liberties" are at the expense of someone else's dignity, well-being, or safety, whether it be Blacks, homosexuals, Jews, etc.
P.S. I love the way you proved how "down" you are with your Black aquaintences. Now that was comical (LOL :} )

He made that remark because that's the type of comedy his show is all about, he just chose the wrong target this time. The Rutgers team didn't do anything to him, unless he had money riding them to win the title. What he said is mean spirited to Rutgers and he should apologize to the team in person, but he was just doing his job and sometimes comedians jokes don't work. Unlike stand up where they rehearse the same routine for years, these radio guys are pretty much working live and have brain farts from time to time.

He said the Rutgers girls were tough looking, with tattoos, and ghetto style hairdos, or some such nonsense. Then he said, "Those are some nappy headed hos there."
"Hos," strangely, isn't as offensive a term as "nappy headed," which has a long pedigree of racist connotation.
But, really, why did Imus say it? One word: profits. The demographic his show attracts are morons who buy a lot of stuff, exactly the type of consumers advertisers drool over. That's why Imus and his ilk feel compelled to say outrageous things. Every now and then they step over the line.

There was white girls on the team, Why do Black assume the remark was a Black thing.I can only assume it because that's the kind of thing their used to hearing on Rap songs. So we can assume Al and Mr Jackson will be on the war path getting record company's to drop Rap stars from there label. Well maybe not most Rap groups or on black owned record ..well CD labels. Don Imus is a jerk. He will never recover from this.

Rutgers did nothing wrong. In fact, they were at the pinnacle of their sport when they were unjustly criticized. All they did was reach the championship game of the NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament. They should have been celebrated, not ridiculed. It's a shame that their memory of this tournament will not be their accomplishments on the court, but the idiot remarks made by Don Imus.

I've bn outta the loop for a couple days so I'm about to go read up on everything myself..but it's interesting how u first ask: "What did the Rutgers girls do?" As if THEY must hv done something to lead to their bn slammed. As if anything could justify those type of remarks.

I can understand people being upset if they were offended, but how come so many people are jumping over a joke, and no one says anything about whore, *****, a ss, jerk off, jack as s, a ss hole on national TV.
Yet Imus is loosing his job? Penthouse and Playboy are offensive to many, they won First Amendment rights... Shouldn't Imus?

if you look like a ho,dress like a ho, inked allover like a ho don't get pissed when you are called a ho!!!!
The school is to blame as well as the Coach, ever heard of a dress code. The schools need to teach everyone who represents the school to dress and act like professionals.
Get over it.
Homosexuals are horrible they bring immoral thoughts and act to the public. They choose this lifestyle just as a drug addict chooses their lifestyle.
It's amazing how many white people suddenly have black friends when something like this happens.
