To portray Dems as uncooperative. You forgot to mention that his proposal to talk carried a condition that Dems drop a timetable for withdrawal in Iraq. The Democrats are not going to drop the timetable without at least getting a veto first, so they were almost forced to decline.

I think Bush knew that, and will try to spin this off as - "I was willing to talk with them, I extended my hands towards them, and they refused to discuss! They are the ones being uncooperative"

Bush's idea of compromise is for him to make demands and have the opposition say "Well, okay then, we'll do it your way." That's a discussion to our President. We've seen this act before, i.e. Iraq Study Group.

His goal is to feed them (Dems) a line of bull, trying to convince them it's in their own interest to go along with him. Of course its not, the Dems have to close the purse strings tight, and get the troops out of there.

Don't forget, Bush is the decider not the communicator, I can't forecast what his objective or goal in inviting the Dems for discussion.

To garner headlines.
For a change, the leftest that slant the news will have to report on a situation where it difficult for the liberals to illustrate support for the safety of American citizens in general.
When and if the Dems accept the offer to discuss the issues, the press will have to report.
It will take a LOT of specious arguments and slanting for the News lefties to alter that reality.

Bush isn't the King anymore. Will somebody please tell him?

His goal is to make a show so he can point later and say "Looky there Billy Bob, I tried to talk about it", ignoring the condition so Faux can spin it for the droolers.

He is trying to make it look like he is working with Congress, even though he is not. Do politicians really think Americans are that stupid?

His goal is to secure funding for the troops and that should be Congress's as well.

If Congress wants to set a time table for US withdrawal from Iraq, fine. Write a SEPERATE piece of legisaltion that does that and only that and see if itpasses (and is supported) on its own without being a political football by being tied to the troop funding.

ADD: Wow was not expecting a thumbs down on that answer. Let the "pull-out" crowd have their legislation passed by Congress provided it was its own bill is a bad answer? Libs never cease to amaze! lol

ADD2: If i only had said "Yeah that Bush is bad, evil thinks he is King" What a constructive well-thought answer that would have been. NOT. But at least the fellow lib-sheep would have had another answer to thumb up
