I always had problems with the pill. My doc put me on the Nuvaring. I really liked it. It didn't make me sick, but did what it was supposed to do. It's really easy to insert and you only have to worry about it once a month.

When you have the baby you could temporarily go on progesterone-only pills (mini pills) which should not interfere with milk production, if you want to breastfeed. I had the same experience as you with the pill, but was on the low-dose progesterone-only pills for a while after my first baby, and they were okay.
I quit the patch because of the health risks; just got pregnant using spermicidal foam, so wouldn't highly recommend THAT one!!
NuvaRing will be my next stop for birth control once this baby is born and weaned (unless I have a c-section; then I'll probably have my tubes tied). I have a friend who was basically psychotic while on the pill but says she feels the best she ever has since her doctor put her on the ring. In case you're not familiar with it, it's a plastic ring you wear inside of you during the month; it gives off hormones to prevent ovulation. After three weeks you remove it and have your period. No pills to remember; no fuss.
I don't blame you for not wanting an IUD; no doctor I've ever had will give me a straight answer about HOW it prevents pregnancy; the best answer I've gotten is that they don't really know how, but a medical book I have states that it is NOT a contraceptive; it merely prevents the embryo from implanting in your uterus if you do conceive. I know a lady who had her youngest son with an IUD in place.
I also had a friend who was on the Depo shot and bled for several weeks. I know this isn't the standard reaction, but it's the only frame of reference I have for the shot.
Good luck with your decision; I know what a hassle it can be! Good luck with your baby, also!!

I hate birth control I think there are too many side effects and it really isn't effective. All my kids have been conceived while on birth control patches, IUD, pills, and now I'm 30 weeks pregnant after my husband was "fixed" so that didn't even work. I always wanted a big family but after having a bad miscarriage I had to go on birth control and about 5 months after that I found out I was pregnant again. Now we are on baby number 5 after this one I'm getting my tubes tied~ that and with my husband re-snipped we should be fine.

Well are you breastfeeding? If you are that takes the options that you have for birth control down substantially. I would recommend the IUD. I got one after my twins were born and it is a little uncomfortable being put in...i felt mild cramps. But knowing that it is as effective as sterilization..thats a big deal! They last about 5 years without having to be changed and you dont have to worry at all about taking birth control!!!!!! There is no reason not to do it....the risks of getting pregnant are SOOOOO small that I wouldnt worry about that! It is the best form of birth control out there in my opinion...No weight gain..no hormones whacking you out more than you already will be from being post baby.. and the big plus you NEVER have to worry about birth control! Plus my periods are super super light now. (The first month i bled for a LONG LONG time) but the next month it was almost nothing! i would recommend them to anyone!!!

There are so many different types of pills out there. Everyone gets different side effects and what might suit one person perfectly may give someone else horrible side effects. When you decide to go back on the pill then ask your doctor about trying one that is known for less side effects. I dont know what pill you were on but Microgynon is a very commonly prescribed pill but it tends to have more side effects than others such as Yasmin (which they first called the 'feel good' pill because a lot of people really get on with it) or cilest. Good luck

Up until I missed my last shot and got pregnant, it did the trick. I didn't get my period for two whole years! And since you have not decided whether you would like to have more children or not I might mention it took less than 2 months of being off the shot for me to get pregnant. It wasn't very costly, very effective, and I didn't notice much weight gain. On the other hand I had a close friend that bled for months because of the shot. But this is rare. I would definitely reccomend Depo-Provera.

I am getting back on the shot after I have this baby. I am also 38 weeks. I didnt like the patch, and the pills messed with my hormones to much. I get the shot that last for 3 months, and it helps stop my periods as well as being 99% effective. It sometimes causes weight gain though.

Using condoms and birth control is better. Speak with your doctor about birth control, your ob will suggest what they think is best for you. I tried Yaz, didnt like it, I tried Yasmin and I liked it better but I have trouble remembering things like that, so I am switching to nuva ring, I dont think IUDs are a good idea because it is a foreign object that is going to be in your body for years, and it can damage your uterus making it impossible to have children and cause other major problems. Research everything online that you are interested in and narrow your options then when you sit down with your doctor tell them what you came up with and you should be able to come up with something together

Well, that is a tough one, since you mentioned all the different kinds of birth controls you have tried but did not like, I was going to suggest a vascetomy for your husband, but then you said you did not want anything "permanent", then that is out of the question, although I have heard that they can be reversed.
But check with your doctor on other "options" on not becomming pregnant now. Your doctor might know better than I will.

I used the pill for many yrs. If they make you sick or you have breakthru bleeding, you need a different dosage. I also used the diaphram, but I used to forget to use it all the time. Spontaneous sex is out when you are using this form of bc. After I had my last child, I had a tubal-best thing!!! No more worrying about unplanned pregnancy. Yeah!!!!!!!
