It is not so much that they cared, it is the fact that her life was such a train wreck and we are fascinated by the evolving spectacle. It is also a reminder to some people that when they look in the mirror they can honestly say to themselves, " My life is not that f**ked up!"

Cos people are making it such a big deal, like everyone loves her. Most everyone forgot about her for years until all the drama started. Her family probly even forgot!

because it gives people a reason to not think about their own lives and when they do they think the look good compared to people with all the drama in my opinion at least.

because the majority of people live very boring, uneventful lives. and we find it seems to make life more interesting to be bombarded with useless "news" about people who have lives a little more interesting than ours. that. and we're all a bunch of mindless sheep.
