I have seen several question on here about Imus statements and how he should not be condemned due to freedom of speech. My point is this: Freedom of speech does not protect you from being accountable for what you say. I think Imus, Biden, Coulter, Hannity, or whoever else should be villified for some of the things they say. Just because you have the freedom to say something does not mean you are not going to be held accountable. I could wear a sign that says " I hate Jews" in Israel, but I'm damn sure gonna get my azz kicked. Do other people agree that many people use freedom of speech as a way to avoid accountability for their actions?

It could be - but I really think they are just blowing smoke.
They are probably the very same people that wanted to crucify the Dixie Chicks for insulting Bush and claiming they were just holding them accountable.

Imus has a right to say whatever racist remarks he wants to say. His employers; however, are the only people he is accountable to. If they want to fire him because of what he said, they have the right. If they do not want to fire him, they have that right too.

Imus is not accountable to anyone else. He does not have to please Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton. If they do not like what he has to say then they should not listen to his program.
