I have a 11 month old and when she was only 3 months old she ended up in the hospital for 3 days because of a UTI. I had noticed that her urine had smelled like ammonia too. And that is one of the first signs that a baby has a UTI. I know that many people say that babies cannot get them. But what her doctor told me was that it could had started out as another infection and then when her body was trying to get rid of that infection her kidneys was just trying to filter the bacteria out which caused her to get a UTI. I would suggest you to take your baby to the doctor. A UTI, could be dangerous if untreated. They could do a urine test on your baby to see if she/he has one.

Baby has strong urine. I would clean the area well and try giving a few ounces of water to dilute the urine. If that doesn't work contact your pediatrician.

Urine. The same reason you smell ammonia after an animal pees.

because mammels urine is made of urea and NH3 (ammonia). If its a really strong odor, you need to give your baby more water, either through milk or just extra water.

Because urea (in urine) is made from the components found in ammonia. It's nothing to worry about.
