Every day we're exposed to the tragic, the mean, the unpleasant and the violent aspects of contemporary life. Rarely, however, do we have a chance to witness, or even hear about, the positive side of human nature.

I've always believed that most people are inherently good and decent, and they there's a lot more good in the world that we hear of. With that in mind, why not "toot your own horn" and tell us about your most significant act of kindness. It's not bragging or self-aggrandizement...just an opportunity to renew our collective faith in human nature.

Thanks for your answers...and for continuing to be kind!

For the past 7 years or so, I have contributed for the education and general well-being of a poor girl from an underprivileged area, through a social service organization. I intend to continue my sponsorship until she completes her education or until I die, whichever occurs first. I didn't know who my sponsored girl was, as the selection was done by the Organization.
The girl knows my name, but hasn't seen me nor have I met her, though I have seen her photograph. She has learnt her alphabets just a couple of years ago.
Though we are strangers in the sense that we don't know each other, through this sponsorship I feel satisfied that I am doing something useful to give the chance of a better life to a poor girl; in turn, I am sure that she would, when she grows up and starts earning, help pass on the torch of a helping hand to others like her. The bond between us is sure to strengthen in the years to come.
You are absolutely right that most people are basically decent, good and kind-hearted. One only needs to empathize with others, and good intentions would be followed by good deeds. This is one way of building a happier world.
I believe in what a Saint once said: 'Give, give till it hurts. You would receive more than what you give'. I think this is very true.

Not sure if this is what you were looking for, but when I was 15 years old I worked for a grocery store pushing carts. I always looks for wallets for pockets books on the ground or in the carts that someon forgot. Well, one day I got my chance I saw a wallet. I coudnt wait to oepn it up. Inside was some cash, but I noticed the picture on the drivers ID. I was the little old lady who worked in the deli at the store. Well I returned right away. Ever since then, I make sure if someone drops somthing or it is misplace or I found someones property, I try to return it as I know how i would feel if I lost mine.

hiya nudi,
love the random acts of kindness. took a grp to NYC and we spent a whole week on the streets doing random acts, stepping in to buy peoples groceries, leaving coins on the pay phones. We even bought umbrellas and handed them out to the homeless during a rainstorm. Me and the kids were haivng a blast trying to find new things to do. Just recntly I ate at a rest that had one of my former students, i left her a huge tip and ran out the door. she is in college and maried and doing the whole struggling to get by thing so i thought i should put a smile on her face. hello everyone, pay it forward.

Well first of all, man is basically evil. The media doesn't help because they always report doom and gloom. If you want to find something good, then just go out and seek it yourself. Above all, just quit watching the misleading news. And following man for all of your answers is just a witch-hunt.
