Al Sharpton and Jessie Jackson should decide which words are racist.

Since they are both " Men of God ", their motives are above reproach. I personally cannot recall any unkind words directed at anybody uttered by either one of these fine gentlemen.

I had never heard the word nappy used in that manner until this issue came up. The last I heard a nappy was what the English call a diaper. If so than I wouldn't want to be called that either. The real problem is the bastardization of English. Ho? Said 3 times it portrais Santa Claus. Otherwise it is incorrect English. But, of course we just drool on and repeat such words. I tend to agree with Bill Cosby on the use of English, do it correctly or not at all.

Interestingly a group of people develop their own language and then complain because they are singled out or get mad because others use it. I knew a guy who was a friend of mine, he moved away and I haven't seen him in quite awhile, but he used to complain about being called the N word even by his own people. I looked at him and said look in the mirror. You dress like the stereotype, you talk like the stereotype, you walk like the stereotype and are surprised when someone calls you that stereotype? He didn't like it but agreed that it was probably the reason. Never changed, though. The last I saw he still was like that. If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, talks like a duck, has a hairdo like a duck, and dresses like a duck do you think it just might be a duck?

Well for one thing IMUS himself has 'nappy hair" just like many other Jewish people. For another, IMUS may well be a radio/television personality, but he is really rather ignorant. And it makes no difference whether rap artists use that "ho" term or not. No one is being forced to buy their music.
IMUS on the other hand. An old geezer with reasonable ratings. Now the ratings will increase for a few weeks after his school-like "suspension.
For a man who professes to do a lot of things for the Black community, he doesn't know much about them.
I think I'll write to IMUS and remind him of how 'nappy" his hair is, and also remind him that lots of People can be "hos"--- including people he knows.... white people, that is...

Ho should not be banned because that word is funny. Any girl can be a ho. It doesn't matter what color she is. I don't know what nappy means.

It is tricky. How can get new garden tools if I am afraid to ask for a hoe in Lowes?

Since nappy refers to a diaper in the UK, will they have to call diapers something else?

Everyone defines what is racist. If people take offense to the word "boon" then that word is offensive and shouldn't be used unless you want to offend people.

However, you can't ban words - if you do then that increases their taboo and therefore their power.

i think freedom of speech should mean just that.. but whenever the government gets involved by deciding who can say what there is a problem. People should be able to deal with all this crap themselves.

we have all gone crazy, right now we have soldiers being killed in a foreign country so they can have a democracy, and here in our own country we are denouncing freedom of speech, nothing should be banned, if its how you feel you should be able to speak your mind, I would rather someone speak their mind right up front, instead of whispering it in the corner, at least when someone is upfront you know what your getting.

All the rap albums would have to be pulled off the shelves! Oh but that would be racist and Sharpton would protest!

If Imus were black--nothing would have been mentioned or any words considered racist!
