I've been racking my brain for a while -- the little peanut inside's formed a dent that's clearly visible now -- and I've decided to break down and ask your help, folks.
I've been looking to start a hobby. The thing is, I can't think of anything that's cheap (I'm broke). Sure, I read, write and play board/computer and video games, but none of that -- with the exclusion of writing -- is considered a marketable skill. What else can you suggest?
Thanks for reading and replying!

I love taking pictures and organizing them into a scrap book later. Doing the scrap book takes time, and if you like the idea that's a great hobby.
You can do you own first, and if anyone else like your work, you can do more to sell.
People can pay you to do the work and you get some extra money.
You can buy the photo albums for 10 dollars at Mayer's and them you have to spend the time and the money to develop the pictures.
Once you invest on the material, for the first album the other ones will cost you less.
You need: the album, the pictures, different kind of scissors, colorful papers and stickers (specially letters of the alphabet)

Do you want a hobby, or do you want a marketable skill? They are usually two different things. A hobby is something you do for fun, and it doesn't have to make you any money.
You could do letterboxing, where you follow directions to hunt for treasures that someone else has hidden. . It would get you out hiking and takes no equipment except a rubber stamp. Then when you do get money, you could get a GPS receiver and graduate to geocaching.
There are hobbies that you can have in your mind all the time. For instance, I always look for advertising signs painted on old brick buildings. I think they are fun to read and won't last forever, so I try to have my camera with me at all times to catch one if I see one.

I used to crochet a lot. Yes you have to pay for the yarn but you can make scarves as presents for holidays.
Scrapbooking can be somewhat marketable because it is similar to the advertising field. But it is expensive.
You might read. You can always get books free at the library.
Or bake cakes. If you get really good at it. That is a marketable skill.
I watch a lot of HGTV. Are you an organized person? Maybe you could get paid for organizing people's homes or offices.

I picked up juggling about a year ago. It's fun, easy to learn, and there's always a new challenge. High quality stage juggling equipment can be expensive, but I started out with a kit from Barnes & Noble for $10, that came with an instruction booklet and 3 beanbags. Good luck!

Hobbies, by definition, are almost always not considered marketable skills. If one could make a living at a hobby one would, since it is more enjoyable than work.
Perhaps you could volunteer to serve meals at a homeless shelter, or to visit home-bound senior citizens? That wouldn't cost much.

Cross-stitching is easy, cheap, and fun. You can get free charts online and fabric and dmc floss (thread) is fairly cheap at walmart. Google free cross stitch patterns to find some free charts, each chart will tell you which dmc floss to buy (they cost about .25 cents each), ebay also has tons of very cheap cross stitch charts.

Soap making! Lard or veggie oil is cheap, but you may have a hard time finding the lye now that Red Devil took it's 18 ounce bottles out of stores because of meth heads! :(
Try these two links to get started:

http://millersoap.com/
Soap making is fun, and it feels cool to make your own, and then give it away as gifts! :)
Very satisfying hobby, my wife and I love it! :)
