Ok so I am a smoker and felt I should respond to this. Just like everything else in life, you cannot make someone change, they have to want to do it for themselves to be motivated enough to change and stick to it. In regards to smoking, I don't know what you can really tell someone when it is posted all over the place that smoking kills and that's the worst thing that can happen...You could be supportive but don't try to force them to do something they may not be ready for. Tell them that you care about them and their health and know that they have the strength to quit and lead a healthier lifestyle. Who knows, maybe it might motivate them to take the steps to quit or at least actually begin to think about it as a possibility. Take care and good luck:)

I was a smoker up until I got pregnant. I didnt want to hear anything at all. People telling me things just made me want to smoke more. The person has to ready. They will know when it is time. Be supportive and dont badger.

you can tell them what ever you want but it is not going to do any good. my hubby smokes almost 3 packs a day and i hate it but, i married him knowing he smokes so i cant really do anything about it. he knows it's not healthy and i dont like it at all but, it is an addiction and if it is not in his heart to quit he ain't going to quit.....

You can't tell them anything that will make them stop. I think that you should tell them your concerns. Then listen to them and let them give you their reasons for smoking. Ask them if they are ready to quit. If they aren't then, they won't. Good Luck!!!

You can't--there are no magic words. Just encourageand support them if they decide to try to quit.
