I am having problems with my car starting. I posted a question earlier, but I am going to add more info this time. Over about the last 7 months, I have been having this problem. It doesn't happen all of the time. In fact the car can go a month with no problem at all. When I turn the key, it doesn't act like a dead battery. The clock, radio and heater all come on. It doesn't even sound like it is trying to start. Sometimes if I hold the key in the start position for a while (10 seconds) it will start to turn over, but most of the time, not. The last time this happened, one of the times we tried to start it, it acted as if the battery was dead. This is the only time it has done that. It later started fine without being jumped. Today, the turn signal was going about 5 times as fast as usual for a short time, then it was fine. We replaced the starter about 6 months ago...didn't help. I have 3 sets of keys and tried them all, no differences. Any ideas?

It is not the alternator. We had that checked and there is full charge on the battery, too. If it was the alternator, I would have to jump it to get it started. We don't have to do that.

Have you tried changing the air in your tires?

Battery connection. Battery connection. Battery connection.....

ADDED:
Your starter takes about 200 amps to turn. Your radio needs, oh, maybe 5 amps.

Scale builds up between the battery post and cable terminal and restricts the amount of electricity that can be pulled from the battery.
Sure, all the little things work, but the starter won't.

It's your alternator. I used to have a '97 Neon and it did the same thing, where it would only do that intermittently. After a while, though, it just quit altogether one day on my way home from high school. Do yourself a favor and take it in.

try the alternator or if the battery poles have the white crap around the cables where it connects pour a little coke over it the acid in coke will remove it and you'll have a better connection.

sound like a wiring problem. one of you wire has a short. usually when the turn signal blinks fast it indicates that the bulb is bad, but since it stopped and is fine you must have a short in a wire somewhere.

it appears you have a grounding problem some where, you can check the ground cable for corrision and check that the engine to chassis strap is in place. beyond that you will need a reputable gqarage........hope it helps
