Because he stepped on black peoples bunion. To some they still experience racism and therefore what he said is "taboo" to them which to me is hypocritical. I understand it was hurtful to the Rutgers basketball team and it was unwarranted and uncalled for however he is an equal opportunity insulter. No one escapes his acid tongue, not whites, jews, asians, europeans etc.
It is a double standard especially when blacks use the "n" word, call women bit*hes and ho's and also use the description of "nappy haired" in their songs ( such Ice Cube who put the descriptive in his a few of his rap songs); The black comedians such as Chris Rock, DL Hughley, Kat Williams who also use the "n" word and also call ethnicities slurs such as "cracker" etc.
If they want to suspend Imus, they should suspend EVERYONE who uses offensive words (boy would that be almost everybody). They are the ones who give words power over them.
Then to have Al Sharpton with his vitriol is disgusting. He is still trying to keep himself relevant and keep himself and people like Jesse Jacksom from becoming obsolete. Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson seemed to have selective memory. They seemed to have forgotten all the times THEY called jews " uncle hymie" and whites " crackers and honkies".
I have listened to Imus and categorized when he had said anything offensive for what it was "shock" value. He said out loud what is still sometimes whispered.
Be that as it may, I have listened to him talk on various issues and know about some of causes he has fought for which benefits minorities which is why I am annoyed with Sharpton, the NAACP and their ilk.
Imus and his other half have fought valiantly for the bill to get federal dollars for funding research into autism. He has done a lot that he does not crow about unlike some others who would trumpet it from the highest roof tops. The only reason we found out about the autism bill was because of the Republican from TX who had been in charge of the committee who did nothing but stall and gut the bill and he had been encouraging his listeners to contact their congress people and tell them to get behind the bill.
His 2 weeks will be over in no time and he will be back.

While I agree he has done a lot of good - especially for children living with cancer and other blood disorders - the fact reamains that he has a nationally syndicated show with a large audience. He has a responsibility to the public to conduct himself as a professional, and he crossed the line.

I don't think he's a bad person. I believe that good people make bad judgement calls. I'm not perfect. I've said things I regret, and I'm sure there are a lot of people reading this who would admit the same. And while I can't speak for anyone else I can say that my speaking without thinking had consequences. Being suspended and scrutinized are his.

To that end, while I believe that what Don Imus said was disgusting and inappropriate, I blame the producers more. After all, had there not been a protest to Imus's remarks, they would have done NOTHING about his actions. And that's pretty disgusting, if you as me.

I think that some people are coming down hard on him. No one's opinion should really matter except that of the women he made the comments about.
Personally, I would rather he be as honest as he was in his opinion than have him being a racist behind closed doors. At least I know what he stands for.

There is a double standard. There are many examples of this to help me demonstrate my point but I will just give you one big one.

"Its hard out here for a pimp" won an oscar.

Google the lyrics to that song and ask yourself how that could happen in a society that doesn't have double standards.

I know there are those out there who say they are different but that is called rationalization.

have a good day.

He called them some nappy headed ho's live on his show!! Here is a little bit of the conversation that was on the air:

Benard McGuirk (producer) "that's some rough girls from Rutgers. Man, they got tattoos ..."

"That's some nappy-headed hos there, I'm going to tell you that," Imus said

He has appologized on air and the head captain of the team is supposed to meet with him and he has been removed from the air. I know his show is the most provacative show on radio and blah blah blah. He shouldnt have said THAT. Sheesh!! I dont care if you are the Virgin Mary, if you go on air and say that about ANYONE it is going to come down on you and hard!

From what I could find about what he said and I didn't do a very big search, I think what he said was kind of harsh. If anyone wants to email me what he actually said and in what context I'd really appreciate it.

I agree with you...he said something that is very nasty, i agree on that, but he got a suspension which was good...why does he need to be fired? he is good at what he does! i like his show, granted he is redneckish. you see here's the thing Al Sharpton and Jessie Jackson will not have a career if things like that dont happen, they have to take it out of proportion! he got what he deserve but firing him would be ridiculous!

I have no idea why people are getting so upset. Everyone says things, get over it.
