I have a box room which is very stuffy and makes it hard to sleep at night, even when the weather isn't particularly hot.

It has two uncovered vents, and when I'm here, the windows are left open until I go to bed (can't leave them open overnight due to the noise outside), but the temperature still seems very warm and makes it very stuffy. It's enough to make people sweat.

Is there anything I can get to try and make it less stuffy? Preferably something under £50 (so not an expensive air conditioner), and something that doesn't take up tons of electricity.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for all the great answers everyone, just to say my room is already a light blue colour and I don't smoke.

Fans, and lots of them, the key is to have continuous air circulation.

The problem probably is that being at the top of the house just under the roof it gets overheated during the day time sun and retains this heat into the evening and night. A fan and light combination might help, fitted in place of your normal light fitting,They are completely silent and the fan speed is adjustable so that it pleasant without having a gale.I use one in my bedroom and wouldn't be without it.The other suggestion is to leave a window open and use earplugs. If in UK B & Q have ceiling fan/light fittings from about £30. They don't use a lot of electricity.

I suppose a well placed fan would make a difference. And I've found opening windows in other areas of the house combined with a fan blowing into the room helps. If that's an option...A ceiling fan is especially good.

You could try a fan or air purifier to take some of the dirty particles out of the air and make it a little less stuffy

Hey Everybody - Global Waaaarrrmming!!!!

Can't believe no-one has said just open the goddamn windows - and I'm not being a smartalec but serious. maybe you could get earplugs if you can't get used to the noise.

We can't all keep adding pollutants to our lives when there are simple remedies though I do appreciate that some people need near silence to relax.

Sweet dreams.

I suggest that you get an area humidifier. The stuffiness is probably due to the lack of humidity. also stop smoking in your room and the air will remain fresh longer.

Install a ceiling fan or at least get a table fan and have it near the nightstand. You may be able to turn the thermostat fan control from auto to run, just don't forget to turn it back or it will run forever. Good luck

Repaint your room with cool color, warm colors intensifies light and temperature, cool colors minimize them, there are light colors which are cool as well such as light blue.
