For example, my birthday is April 19th, most books say I am the last day for an Aries. Some say it is April 20th. I've even seen April 18th which puts me in a different sign. Is there an official list of dates somewhere?

They are different because they are based on Nature, and Nature does not fit into a perfect calendar... Notice how every 4 years we have a leap year? Well that affects everything, including the exact time when signs change from one to the next. It shifts a little bit back and forth from year to year... You need a birth year and an exact time and a birth place to find out precisely...

no, u r aries, u say u were born april 19th and the ending date 4 aries would've been apr/20/????, 4 u to be the next sign after aries, u'd have 2 go 2 days after the 19th. which would've been taurus. but sometimes it's a different matter. let's say u were born apr/20/???? the only way to determine what sign u r would b 2 find out what time u were born as well, then u'd know wether u were really born on on apr/20 or u could've been born in the middle of the nite, THEN mins and sec. would've tooken u 2 the following day.

Some astrologers like to give themselves wide latitude for interpreting someone born on or near a cusp. It's like breathing. It's like a "click track" in recording music. The cusp represents a movement, not an exact, fixed or rigid moment in time, but a more free-flowing motion which encompasses energies moving in and moving out, like moving out from, say April 18th, and moving in to, say from April 20th.....there are 3 days in play. 3 days in which energies can be intuitively sensed for this person, and the very same energies can also be interpreted completely differently by a different astrologer. When you put it all together, mapping on top of each other, each of these variables, you can handle most concerns.
