There were a few African empires that we know about... the greatest hindrance in this case is that recordkeeping was not a priority so we really know very little about the bulk of African history. So little that it is quite possible that whole empires rose, fell, and were forgotten.

Of those we know, I would say the Zulu Empire under Shaka may have been one of the greater. There was also the Empire of Mali, Zimbabwe, and a few others. Nor should the Egyptian Empire be ignored. Still... none of these really penetrated much (if at all) into regions beyond Africa. They may have controlled their own areas, but not anything so vast that it might be well compared with other 'world-wide' empires.

As for slavery, it has been historically far more common than most people think. Even in Europe, the underclass of serfs were long considered to essentially be part of the 'natural resources' of a land, so those people belonged to the lands' owners who could generally do with them as he wished.

This is, perhaps, what most African slavery was most like. Most slaves were not quite treated as property or objects in the strictest sense, but would generally live their lives and just be expected to contribute their labour or such where it was directed. Some were even paid for their work. Many bought their own freedom and rose to high levels of society.

This makes historical African slavery much less onerous than the kind that was practiced later in other parts of the world, such as America. While it was (and still is in some places of Africa) common for victims of circumstance or war to be sold or moved as 'spoils', they were still very much -people-, and not necessarily even lesser ones. And where you have limited resources, sometimes it seems like a pretty good idea to get some of the people out of the area, even if it does meaning selling them into slavery elsewhere.

And that, perhaps, is why so many Africans found themselves as slaves in other parts of the world. It was a common enough practice in Africa, many expected nothing horrific to come of it, and many of those who knew better didn't care as long as they made enough money doing it. Few other regions were as systematically pillaged for slaves for the simple reason that few other regions were as cooperative about it.

So it goes.

the moors were the persian muslims. tripoly is the only real people that did anything out of africa really. and they were just pirates that sacked trade vessels. and well the tribes on the african coast made a living selling the inner continant tribesmen into slavery. greed is universal.

particular. i like Africa, and can desire to be attentive to what section my ancestors have been from, my tribal peopleS because of the fact theres possibly a team of them from each and every of the integration. Thats the only blend i'm pleased with, i like thinking that i'm in ordinary terms a ton of categories of cool Africans all mixed jointly. i do no longer in ordinary terms like the european mixes nevertheless because of the fact they're an emblem of my ancestor's conflict and oppression. :(

Not close. Egyptians and perhaps the rulers of Ghana came the closest, and that was only a small part of Africa.
